I want Candle to do really well this year, then move on so we can too

Best of both worlds.

ditto - as long as he moves on - or demonstrates that he finally built a team that is structured to not only win the MACC and a bowl game this year, but is poised to do the same next year. I'm thinking we have to go at least 11-3 to accomplish that. Just don't see it happening. Also don't see him moving on to another DI/FBS head coaching job based on this season - unless he also plays OSU close and ratchets up to 12-2.

Tonight’s just a phantom “money game”, and we haven’t really played anyone yet. The real test will be the next 3 games after that. We’ll know where the Rocket football program is after those results.

Agreed. Tonight just want to see them fight hard for 4 quarters and play with confidence and not make boneheaded mistakes. Compete hard and build more confidence going into the next three week gauntlet that will make or break the season going forward

RE: Is It Too Early To Start The Fire Candle Thread…
Mixed feelings about Candle. I kind of admire the fact that he he turned down the high paying Canes OC job…
Possibly his agenda is to finish his job he was paid very well to do in Toledo… That may lead him to a fairly impressive 12-2/bowl win type season…
Hopefully that will be the case, but am damn impressed with the way he is pushing/promoting Toledo football during o$u week.
As he should !!

Candle didn’t even bother to prep for the game. Nor did his defensive staff

I assume you were not pleased on all counts from that "game".

77 is too many.

exactly how does one prep to face the #3 team in the national with perhaps the top offense in P5???? Clearly outmatched on the field across the board

You gave up 11 tds in 12 possessions. Whatever game prep you came up with earlier in the week had no effect on the game

This. The majority of us expected a loss, and a pretty large margin—we just hoped it be close to the point spread. But our D was nonexistent that night. Yes, there were some great throws catches that qualified as “indefensible”; there were plenty of other plays that were much more generic & stoppable. Holding OSU to 28 pints at the half would have me thinking much differently.

Some problems with blown coverage, arm tackling. Biggest thing was allowing the OSU OL to hold on virtually every play.
It negated UT's front seven's ability to make any plays. 1 penalty for 5 yards? Rrright. The fact that the Rocket Offense didn't have much in the way of sustained drives kept the Toledo Defense on the field too long.

plus OSU is a far more talented team across the roster, both sides of the ball and in bench depth, keeping in mind UT was playing a top 3 P5 team, UT could have and should have played better but clearly were outmatched all over the field.

Kent St's OL is blowing holes into Georgia's DL and the play calls! Misdirection that has the camera guy guessing. Shovel passes. Everything is in play.

Yeah, I want to hear from the folks who were saying UT shouldn't be embarrassed by giving up 77 to such a talented #3 team, after seeing Kent hang tough with such a talented #1 team! October 15th may be a very long day if UT doesn't fix things really quick.

By your logic, Georgia should be beating kent st 80-14.
They aren’t. It’s a respectable score. All the more reason why the OSU embarrassment should’ve been addressed by the media instead of Briggs and Rowland just shrugging it off

And for those who wanted Creighton as the HC, they are getting steamrolled by Buffalo and losing it now, having a player get ejected for 2 unsportsmanlike penalties. Not sure I have seen that ever since they put that rule in place.
