Feel that this is one of those Mount alum hires that was a bad deal for UT. Not impressed with his work on our OL.

I looked at his twitter and instagram - he has just 1 picture on each platform of his son in an osu shirt since the beginning of 2020.

The OL has been in a decline for the past 4 years easily. At the end of each season it is incumbent for the head coach to assess strengths and weaknesses and make necessary changes. (Saban does it every year and that is why he has great success where ever he is at.) It worked for our defense! It's depressing that we finally have a championship defense only to have ineffective offense. In the mean time other mid-majors continue to improve (App State, Cinci, Boise, etc..) So another year will go by without a MAC championship and any national recognition. The Toledo Football brand
continues to decline. JC loyalty to his friend will cost him his job and the fan base loses again!

Not enough emphasis on OL, particularly bringing in enough road grader types.
Anyways, scoring kept down this game by:
Pick in the endzone
TD called back because of penalty
Dropped INT
Dropped Fumble

I want the Rockets to win, but I want Candle gone. Always a sour look on his face. No emotion. So stubborn he won't fix things unless absolutely forced. Maybe Mount Union has an opening.

But back to MidnightBG, there are at least 3 pictures of his son in Ohio State gear on his Twitter alone since the beginning of 2020, one even as recent as May 29, 2022. As someone who bleeds midnight blue and gold, the last thing I want to see on my social media feed from a Toledo football coach is a logo from another school, especially one who we compete against. Recruits see that. The team sees that. Just a weird look, especially when your job performance is crap.

The recruits probably all think he loves his son, which is exactly what I see in those pictures.

If a couple pictures with tiny little logos bother you that much, then just unsubscribe to his feed. Simple. Geesh, go ahead and talk about how he coaches on the field, but please don't pick on a dad caring about his son.

Had he gotten hurt we would have no future offense. Bad choices along with a bad 4th down call. Nothing has changed for the positive, it will be a long year!!

Not sure I would have played Finn in 2nd half at all.

With the Offense needing work, play him at least the 3rd quarter.

He needs the REPS.

I think he's trying to point out no one give two ****** on your opinion what we post and you know it, so why do you persist in being an azzhole about it?

Post YOUR thoughts on the TOPIC, even if they disagree. Critique the TOPIC. Not the posters. Then the message board runs like community. We all make this mistake, I'm not playing high and might but..

I don't recall you ever actually commenting on a topic. This is why your attacks stand out. It's just to piss and moan what others are saying. Yours is the method that stagnates a system, shuts down communication and only gives a crap about yes-men, yessing.

We know this fan-base has been particularly sensitive to OSU gear showing up in the GB and to divided loyalties from coaches. I don't think the concern is that far off. If his son is playing at OSU, I get it. Otherwise, I think the point is fair. How do you give the impression you are building a program when your attention is elsewhere?

Kuligowski knows what it's like to win at the highest level and is a former UT player. Kehres is another Mount Union guy. No thanks.

RE: Is It Too Early To Start The Fire Candle Thread…
If you want to feel better about Candle, just watch the BG-EKU game from the last 3 minutes thru OT (although that takes like and hour and a half, but fast-forward helps). Exciting I guess, but kinda like watching a train wreck. I think there were at least a dozen penalties called in just that time period. BG committed multiple ones on EKUs game-tying drive to help them score. EKU committed multiple ones on BG's 1st OT, to allow them to score. BG got one 2pt conversion called back on a hold. But the refs seemed to give BG the game when they called a questionable offensive interference penalty on EKU on one of their 2pt attempts, but somehow EKU still made the 2pts from the 18 yard line with no trouble. EKU must have run out of plays on their play sheet, because at one point they called a hook and lateral to an offensive tackle that failed miserably. But no matter what, still BG could not beat them.

EKU's QB looked better than McDonald, and maybe would be one of the top few in the MAC. EKU's other skill players also seemed better than BGs. Maybe those birds will improve over the season but right now, they look in disarray - still.

RE: Is It Too Early To Start The Fire Candle Thread…
Looking ahead - Toledo at an early 31.5 underdog to OSU. Over/Under is 60.5. Unless Toledo can keep the offense on the field for longer periods of time (UMass had 10 more minutes of possession than Toledo - but that is misleading when you are scoring on nearly every possession), the defense is going to have a difficult time keeping OSU out of the end zone.

I'm thinking Toledo stays under the spread and could make it interesting if a number of things go their way early on. I could also see it being a blow-out since we don't have much to gauge this team against with wins over LIU and UMass.

Would be nice to see Toledo able to run the ball - without using Finn to be the primary rusher. Will the coaches risk running Finn against some pretty athletic linebackers and a safety that hits hard and often in Proctor? Hope not.

RE: Is It Too Early To Start The Fire Candle Thread…
Back to the topic of the thread - Scott Frost is now available. Didn't do well at his alma mater, but what he did at Central Florida was pretty amazing. Even though Frost is only 47, he will have a golden parachute from Nebraska of $15M, so money may not be an issue - and it likely won't be there from a P5 school anyway.

Critical question - why did he fail so miserably at Nebraska? CFU has not been the same since he left, so he had a lot of credibility when he took the Nebraska job 5 years ago. Don't actually see him coming to Toledo - but that's what these boards are for - to speculate and argue various possibilities. Toledo still has to deal with Candle. In all likelihood, his future at Toledo will be determined in about 5 weeks or less.

Campbell rumored to be in the top 2 of candidates being considered at Nebraska. I could see him leaving Iowa State for the right amount of money. Nebraska is not far from Ames - about 225 miles. So the lifestyle of the Midwest that he seems to enjoy will not change at all. He's gotten about as far as he's going to at Iowa State and I think he knows that. Big win over rival Iowa on Saturday - and you always want to get out while you are on top - even if that means still no conference championship in his coaching career. He has to go somewhere that he has a chance of winning the conference championship (Nebraska has a rich legacy with past national championships) and also able to pay what he can likely command. He started at ISU at around $2M/yr., then it bumped to an estimated $3M with all incentives, and bumped again to an estimated $4M in March 2021. Not sure what future conference shuffling will do to Iowa State - or where they could end up. With Oklahoma and Texas departing for the SEC in three years time, the rest of the conference is left in disarray. Little chance they end up in the Big Ten, so to get to the higher pay levels, a move to Nebraska and the Big Ten seems like a logical move for him. Don't see him ever going to the NFL - even with 8 figures to the left of the decimal point. He also has to consider how many more chances an opportunity like this will come along. I think he leaves Ames if offered by Nebraska.

We'll see soon enough. In any event, I think Candle is coaching his last year unless he gives beats OSU or gives them a close game - and wins the West and MACC. He doesn't even need to do that well against OSU if he wins the division and the MACC - and can get a win against a name opponent in a bowl. He just has not put up enough since 2017.

OSU outcome won't factor in AD's decision on Candle at seasons end, but lack of MACC appearance certainly should and will
