Rice sophomore golfer Raghav Chugh is representing his native India at the prestigious World Amateur Team Championships this week in Paris. He had a very respectable +2 (73) in his opening round today, which puts him in a tie for 83rd in an elite field of amateurs.

He's within very close range of some top-notch amateurs, and is currently tied with Belgian Adrien Dumont De Chassert (the world's #15 ranked amateur).

India is tied for 33rd as a team (Chugh's +2 counted along with a teammate who was +1). There are 71 countries in total competing.

Well my post yesterday had the double whammy of jinxing Chugh today in his second round (he shot a 77 or +5, although really he just had one horrid hole - an 8 on a par 4). And simultaneously, I inspired the Belgian golfer (who was a collegiate standout at Illinois by the way) as he shot a 63 today to rocket up the leaderboard.

Chugh shoots an even par 72 today in the 3rd round. They're actually playing two different courses - his 72 (and the 77 yesterday) were on the other course in Paris that they're playing. He'll close out the tournament back on the Ryder Cup course tomorrow.
