The upside is the G5 winner gets "that shot" at a championship. Or at least a chance to be Cinderella and extend their season even more.

The downside is unless you pull off that first round upset, a MAC rep won't get to experience the fun and pageantry of a neutral-site NY6 bowl experience, like WMU and NIU did in the Cotton and Orange, respectively.

If this system were in place in 2016, the Broncos would've been awarded a road game at Ohio State.

If the proposed 12 team playoff were implemented 20 years ago, MAC would have 3 appearances. Miami 2003, NIU 2012, and WMU 2016.

I imagine Marshall would have qualified in 1999 as well if we got back a few years further.
