Somewhat UC related, but reports out of Dallas indicate a number of SMU players intend to sit out the rest of the year and enter the transfer portal.

Just happened to watch a clip of the Purdue-Syracuse game. Syracuse got the ball back with 57 seconds left. Before they punted, Purdue was called for two consecutive unsportsmanlike conduct penalties - a total of 30 yards - and Syracuse got the ball on the 50 yard line.

Purdue was then called for holding - 10 yards - then pass interference - 15 yards. That’s 55 yards worth of penalties in less than a minute.

As you know, Syracuse won that game with a 30-something yard touchdown pass with seconds on the clock

Yes this could be the start of a bad precedent. Not sure why the exodus from SMU though?

New coach, lost last 2 games.

Multiple SMU players will sit out the remainder of the 2022 season with the intention of entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Sophomore safety Isaiah Nwokobia, veteran DB Chace Cromartie, and receivers Roderick Daniels Jr. and Jayleen Record, will enter the portal, according to On3. Team staffers told the Dallas Morning News, however, that Nwokobia and Daniels had not yet communicated an intent to transfer.

Now I'm not familiar with SMU's roster. But I'd hardly call that an exodus.

The two confirmed departures:
Cromartie - Senior, started last year but only has 4 tackles this year, not on SMU's 2-deep (sounds like he was passed up on the depth chart?)
Record - Sophomore, not on 2-deep, no stats this year

The two speculative departures:
Daniels - Sophomore, 2nd string WR, 6th leading receiver
Nwokobia - Sophomore, starting safety with 10 tackles and a forced fumble

Sounds to me like the bigger loss for SMU might not be the talent leaving. It might be the damage this could cause in the locker room.

We can scout our next two road opponents, SMU and UCF, tonight in a rare Wednesday might matchup, caused by a storm postponement last weekend.

Is it just me, or do SMU and UCF look like two bad teams?

What I find pathetic is the SMU “Dallas” uniforms. Maybe Temple should go with Philly uniforms. Or Eggs can put Cincy on theirs.

SMU looks like they always have. UCF looks to be a tier or two below even Heupel's first couple of seasons. I don't want to pounce just yet but Malzahn is a P5 retread...we know how that tends to work out. I posted in another thread that it appears BYU and Cincinnati are the most B12 "shovel ready" teams of the four adds.

It's you. Would rather have some lame ass Big Ten teams on the schedule. UCF and SMU are really talented.

The game at UCF in particular is going to be a real test. They've got some dudes and have been figuring some things out.

I didn't realize how improved their dee is this year until they flashed some stats on the screen.

Both road games will be toss ups. While I believe we are the best team in the league, the gap between us and the rest this year is minimal.

Eh. It's really not. Uc is 13th in sp+. Ucf/smu are around 40. There is a similar gap in most other rankings. Uc is measurably better than everyone else in the league.

That said...road games against top 40 type teams are real tests that you can absolutely lose even as a top 15 type team. And I think the numbers might be low on ucf. I like them more than their metrics this year.

We should crush SMU. hey are not even close to us.

UCF could be trickier. But really both games will depend much more on how UC plays than on our opposition. Neither team should do much of anything against our defense.
