RE: 2022-23 NHL Thread
I wanna say Carolina-Vegas Stanley Cup, but these teams are all pretty even at this point. Now, maybe someone gets blown out in their Conference Final series. That could well be Florida if the magic carpet ride comes to an end. I also think is going to be a tough challenge for Vegas in the west Final. Like Edmonton, Vegas did not win any regular season games against the Stars. The first was a blowout, but then Dallas squeaked by two overtime SO victories over the Golden Knights. In the end, they figured out how to beat the Oilers and played their four victories as near-perfect games against. The formula for beating the Stars will be different.

A case can also be made for Florida to continue the upsets against Carolina. With their goalie rolling, Florida may find enough to win the series, especially if Carolina goes into a little slump at the wrong time. One thing is sure, those Carolina fans are plenty loud and supportive in their home arena!

Carolina winger Teuvo Teravainen is expected to return from injury, which should be a big boost against the Panthers tonight!

The Panthers lead the series 1-0. The game finished at 79:47 of overtime play, the sixth-longest game in Stanley Cup playoff history. Matthew Tkachuk's goal with 12.7 seconds left in quadruple overtime gave the Florida Panthers a 3-2 victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday morning in Raleigh, North Carolina. Wow!

I sure hope Vegas doesn't have that kind of problem tonight. Very nervous this will be it for us.

No 4-OT's here. Just a few minutes into OT-1...

Vegas takes a 1-0 series lead.

MatthewTkachuk ties all-time NHL playoff record with his thrid OT winning goal in these playoffs. Who had Florida up 2-0 in the East Final? Maybe a coupla drunk guys at a gold coast bar. Unbelievable.

What a game! OT win with a shot by Stephenson after Dallas held them in check almost the whole game. It looked like we couldn't get anything going, and then, toward the end of the 3rd, Jonathan Marchessault took a no-look feed from Jack Eichel off a Dallas misplay behind the net and everything turned Golden again!

Vegas, who are sixth in shots per 60, were held to a combined 10 shots through the first 40 minutes! I mean, Dallas has their number so far this series.

Now, tonight's a HUGE night for the Knights! If we can put them on the ropes here and somehow manage to go up 3-0, then the series should be in a good place. If we let them feed off their home-ice energy, and the Stars continue to shut us down the way they did most of Game 2, then Vegas is in a world of trouble.

Well...someone DID get blown out in their Conference Finals Series...and Florida WAS involved, 'cept it was the Panthers surprisingly blowing out the Hurricanes. I sure didn't see that coming.

And..on the other side, I sure didn't see Dallas throwing up the flag in Game 3. That dirty hit by Captain Benn bought him a well-deserved two game suspension. Now, hope Vegas can go ahead and wrap this up. Only 4 teams in NHL history have come back against a 0-3 deficit. Let's don't make it 5. Finish the job, Vegas....and then worry about a VERRRY good and underrated Florida team already resting up for the Cup.

Well, thank goodness Dallas ran out of steam. Vegas played lackadaisical in Games 4 and 5, like the series was just supposed to be handed to them. Give a lot of credit to a very young and still-improving Stars team that will return to the playoffs a bunch in upcoming years. Also, kudos to Aiden Hill, who played great despite his defense abandoning him the previous two games. He will likely get a huge contract as a free agent.

Vegas better get their heads on straight, because Florida panthers are no joke. They are an excellent, excellent team, with great goal-tending, and will be hard to beat for the Cup. Vegas' atrocious Power Play and shorthanded defense, which seems inexplicable, is sure to be tested yet again. Will the bend-don't break Knights be Golden in the Cup Finals, or will they fall apart and waste their window which is starting to close? And Jack Eichel, son, we need you to shoot the dang puck, not pass every time where the opponent defense just backs off and covers others, thwarting your pass attempts time and time again.

Either way, we will see a franchise hoisting its first cup in team history.

The Knights CAN win this Series and their first Cup...but WILL they?

Nice to see Theodore score finally in these playoffs. He's had so many shots.

Luv that the original 6 misfits are leading the scoring sheets past few games. Eichel...shoot the PUCK, son. Stop passing EVERY time.

Panthers Tkachuck is a great player, but man, is he a dirty player. All that extra curricular was totally stupid, and the Panthers trying to dumb the series down with all the fakery and childishness is unbecoming. They're a good team, just play the game.

Nobody puts on a show in sports like the Vegas Golden Knights!

Also, Luv that the TNT guys get to announce this Cup! Biz and Ace, luv yaz! Henri, loosen up, bro!

Soooooooo close. If Barbashev's shot had been over just a few inches, we'd be up 3-0 now. Credit Florida for giving a good effort, despite their continued stupid penalties. And Vegas seems to have found its Power Play...for now...Glad we put a good clean hit on Tkachuk. Couldn't happen to a 'nicer' player. Hill did all he could, we gotta finish.

For the moment, Conn-athan Marchessault is the odds-on favorite for the Conn Smythe. That could change, of course, but when he says he don't mind that Florida snub a few years ago, he's prolly lyin' a bit....

yeah, if Tkachuk's shot had been lifted and gone in, it wouldn't have counted as the game clock had already expired. Couldn't blame the Knights players for getting in a few slugs after the game was over as the Panthers' modus operandi seems to be play dirty nearly all the time, not just occasionally as most teams inevitably do, but following Tkachuk's lead, throw all kinds of unnecessary garbage at a team to try to rattle them out of their game. To Vegas' credit, they have become more disciplined so far, not less. Also, wow, the Vegas Penalty kill has been excellent, shutting out the Panthers in the series so far.

One more to go, and here's hoping it comes tomorrow night (Tues) at home for the fans and for the massive celebration it would be on the Strip afterwards. For all the talk of Florida's run through tough teams to get here, Vegas' road was just as tough, and they had the questionable Aiden Hill in goal instead of a more known quantity like Bobrovsky. Finish it!
Go Knights!

I mean, what can you say? That was Beautiful!

Congrats, Knights! You earned it all the way in year 6!

Maybe Matthew should try being less random tough guy and focus on helping his team win by playing hockey not Slapshot.

They need more support up in north Alberta becuase two doesn't get it done by theyselves.

Methinks Seattle was watching and saying "We got next."

Oh, Boston, how could you?

The Tropical Storms need to figure out what the heck happened there. They got fizzled like dry air and cold water does to one of those monster off-rican waves that just dies all of a sudden.

Oh, Ottowa? We'll see.

Somebody move the Coyotes before the road runners get 'em. Whale would be nice.

Stone is a beast. Marchy deserved it, but this series showcased how Eichel's unselfish play helps makes his whole team better despite his relatively average personal numbers.

Aiden Hill, who'd a thunk it when you was aqurired in that oh by the way transaction from the sharkies?

Touchet will bring the 'couvers back.

Biz and Ace, you guys were great, but line of the year goes to Conner Bedard "Some great players here...and Biz, too!" I fell out of my chair like Cosby in Vegas back in the day!

Just a great team that matured in each round before our eyes. Next man up worked, and happy for cassidy to get his after being shown the door when it clearly wasn't his fault.

How ya like them apples, DeBoer?

Get some rest, Tampa.

Never forget, 4 goals in less than 2 mins...but it wuz the Isles that did it!

The Fortress will rock some more next season, too!
