UTA has a proud volleyball history, so there’s a pride hit seeing UTRGV rated ahead. It’s a crap shoot this early, but I have a hard time thinking the Mavs will finish that low.

I am looking forward to the season.

This is great. Seven different teams ahead of you, including one with the ink barely dry on their D I credentials, but what really gets you is UTRGV being ranked one notch higher.

And you get to go to Edinburg twice, one in the regular season and one for the tournament.

I don’t know how to compare to the new DI school. I don’t know how to compare to GCU or one of the Utah schools we’ve never played. I know SFA to be a quality team. I know Sam to have their moments.

We’ve never lost to UTRGV in volleyball. To see them ahead is interesting to me.

No but you will get a better grasp of the last 5 to 10 years of which programs have been strong and those who aren't. It would be a good tool to use if you wanted to search to quench that thirst of knowledge.

To my knowledge Tarleton has only played UTA in volleyball twice, both in 2020, during Covid. Both games were in the Ville and we split them. This was also our first year in D1.

Covid year was such a bizarre time, Im not sure if anything during the year can be used for comparing teams.

Yes. On the other hand, those losses were before we became UTRGV and inherited a UTB team and coach Todd Lowery that were winning (non-D1) national tournaments and had won their conference tournament 8 out of their 9 last years. It's the only sport in which we ditched the old UTPA team and "promoted" the UTB one instead, and that was a good decision.

Our RPI last year was 187 vs 214 for UTA, which may have influenced the coaches making the rankings.

we are just a little salty about how bad we have been in volleyball lately. In the 90's we were pretty good even making the final four and being a regular in the tournament. Hopefully we can turn it around, since the WAC seems to be a pretty good volleyball conference.

Considering where Tarleton finished in the Commissioner's Cup last year, I have no doubt either.

I’m sure your numbers are correct, but I believe all but two volleyball matches are D1 v D2/NAIA. So not real sure if the W’s and L’s mean much, but I also understand why you posted them.

I am really looking forward to renewing the rivalry with UTA. I hope we can raise our athletic programs so we can become rivals again.

While RGV has taken a bit of a dip in the last couple of seasons, they still have post season appearances including the NCAA tourney, as well as winning the conference. Definitely a successful program.

I was ignorant on the volleyball coach from Brownsville, so my initial thought maybe off. Still, I’d expect us to perform better than initial projections.

ACU loses to Cal St. Fullerton: 0-3. Not a good start. Next up is New Mexico.

If I am not mistaken Cal state fullerton is usually pretty good in volleyball
