Cagey 1-1 draw between UTRGV and Sam Houston

After the 1-1 draw against Southern Utah, we lose 2-1 to Utah Tech.

Utah Tech hasn’t given up a goal since their last loss on August 27th until ACU. They are a pretty decent team.

So is Southern Utah. To get a draw with them and keep Utah Tech close is a step forward for us. When we can begin to win these it will be another step.

All 3 tourney games were shut outs for the Aggies. We haven’t lost or tied for almost a month, and have only given up 5 goals in the last 10 games going back to September. UVU won an NCAA game in Spring 21, so hopefully we match up well with whoever we get and get another NCAA win for the Western Athletic Conference.

NMSU is only 83 in the RPI, so a win in the NCAA is a lot to hope for. However, UVU was 33, so at least we know we can beat a team ranked around there.

New Mexico State opens at #7 Mississippi State on Friday, 2:00 PM MST

Utah Valley got an at-large bid - play at BYU on Friday at 6:00 PM MST

Nice achievement for UVU. It’s no easy draw for BYU, especially since they already lost to UVU earlier this season.

New Mexico State versus Mississippi State is an interesting matchup of 2 teams headed in opposite directions. Mississippi State has only won 2 games since September 25. They are 2-5-2 since then, after starting 9-0-1. Their schedule has been tougher, for sure, but they aren’t having any kind of stellar season from the look of things. They have only made the NCAA tournament once before.

Ideally. But I really don’t know the exact level of teams MSU has been losing to compared to us. The SEC got a huge number of teams in the tournament this year, so a team like MSU who may be “almost as good” as the very best could still be a more talented than the Aggies. But it’s a lot better than getting a team that’s top 5 in the nation or something. I was afraid that’s what we would get assigned.

MSU is very near UVU in the RPI, in the mid 30’s.

Utah Valley lost to BYU today 3-0 in Provo. The Aggie women lost 2-1 to Mississippi State after MSU scored in the 87th minute to take the lead.
