RE: UT Volleyball 2022
Rockets destroyed Ohio tonight at Savage in straight sets 25-19, 25-17. 25-11 and it wasn't really even that close, as UT committed a bundle of service errors to give OU some life. OU hit .019, UT .304

Ohio falls to 10-4, UT moves to 9-5. The two teams play again tomorrow.

RE: UT Volleyball 2022
Well after thrashing OU yesterday, it looked like the two teams switched jerseys today, as it was pretty much a mirror of yesterday with OU handing UT a sound straight-set beating. OU played better than Friday, but mostly it was that UT was pretty awful. Serve receive was really bad all match and add to that a number of missed connections on sets and some other types of mistakes, and well, it was bad.

And NIU beat CMU, which meant a UT win would have cemented them in 3rd/4th place, but now they are in a 3 way tie for 4th with Buffalo and CMU, and only 1 game ahead of WMU and NIU - so 5 teams vying for 3 spots in the tourney.

3 matches left - 2 at Kent and 1 at 1st place BSU. UT needs to sweep Kent to go into Muncie still in the top 6 for a chance to make the tourney. Inconsistent play has made this a somewhat disappointing season so far.

UT hasn't announced any signings yet, but I saw on twitter that DS/L Avery Adamski from Perrysburg has signed an NLI to Toledo.

Rockets squeak by Kent in 5 sets, to stay in the race for qualifying for the tourney with 2 games left.

UT now tied with CMU for 4th, but are only 1 game ahead of 7th place Buffalo, with the top 6 qualifying. Play Kent again today, and then 1st place Ball State on Wed.

RE: UT Volleyball 2022
Rockets beat Kent again, in 4 this time, after losing set one 25-10 - yikes. Just noticed that Uluave did not play at Kent. If she is hurt that's a huge loss.

Well, if I read the standings right, UT is now guaranteed a slot in the tourney with their win and Buffalo's loss to BG. Only thing to determine is if they get the 4th, 5th or 6th seed. Also, if they would happen to be able to beat Ball St Wed, and BG would win, then BG would host the tourney which might be a plus for UT not having to travel to Muncie.

Volleyball signs 5
https://utrockets.com/news/2022/11/14/wo...class.aspx

I don't know who isn't coming back next year, because it looks like everyone still has another year due to the COVID year, but clearly several are probably not coming back given this big a class. Interesting that UT seems to have a pipeline (pun intended) from Hawaii now. The hitter from there looks like she has a heck of a swing. Still wish UT would bring in an international player from time to time. Most of the rest of the MAC always has at least 1 really good player from oversees.

Believe there was a story this week with seniors being honored. Looks like a nice class. Really like Pertzborn's video.

I believe they have been honoring seniors whether or not they plan to come back. I seem to recall they had Neal participated in the senior night honors even when they knew she was coming back for her 5th year.

Late to posting this but VB lost badly to Ball St again on Wed, 0-3, but still qualify for the MAC tournament with the #5 seed. They play CMU on Sunday in Muncie. UT and CMU split the season series, both matched at Savage and both went 4 sets.

Looks like Morman only played one set according to the UT Official stats...injury?

RE: UT Volleyball 2022
VB season is over, as the Rockets lose in straight sets to CMU.

In set 1, UT was 1st to 15, 1st to 20, was up 23-19 and had multiple set points, and still were not able to close. In set 2, UT was up by as many as 5, was 1st to 15 and 1st to 20 again, and faded at the end. Too many mistakes in critical situations. Not sure what has been up with Uluave, as she did not play again, but appeared to be dressed on the bench. Missing her hurt a lot I think.

During the broadcast, the announcers did say that Rhyenne Filisi has announced she will come back for a 5th season. Still not sure about the other "seniors".

The last time UT had back to back seasons above .500 was 20 years ago, and we have had more single digit win seasons than seasons above .500 overall. In the list of historically underperforming programs, Volleyball has been down there with Baseball at UT pushing up the rear, weird considering how good some of our area teams are...what Oliver has done, and with the recruits he has brought in recently, I think it's only a matter of time before we breakthrough. He has shown an ability to bring players in and perform at a more consistent pace than any coach ever has at UT in Volleyball.

Yeah, he's definitely raised the program from the previous few years, but an open question is whether his recruiting is keeping pace. The class from 2 years ago is down to 1 player left who played in like 1 set all year. Last year's class has played slightly more and still has time to develop, however schools like BG and CMU had true freshmen that were major contributors from the jump. We'll have to see how next year's class looks when they get here. The two Hawaiian transfers were great gets, and he clearly has some recruiting skills to talk them both into surviving the Toledo winters.

True...he also is missing out on every decent/good player in the region as well. Can't lose players to Bradley, Cincinnati, etc. who live 10 minutes from campus.

Wasn't the LB discus thrower pretty good. Do we need to recruit European players?

Granger has played in all of 10 sets this year, usually at the end of matches that are blowouts one way or the other. That's not to say she won't work her way into the lineup down the road - it took Bouyer three full years (including 1 redshirt) before she became a staple of the offense this year. UT has capable hitters so she needs to break into that rotation somehow.

It's the back row where, IMO, UT struggles. They added 1 DS last year - Meadors from Columbus - and she's played the most of any of the freshmen, but still sparingly. They also added a S/DS who has not seen the floor at all, although I think she started out the season injured, so that may be a planned redshirt. They add 1 DS in this upcoming class.

Setter is also not the strongest I don't think, although some of that is certainly due to the too-often poor passing from the back row. They add one more S this year.

The two DS's that played the most this year are both seniors, and I don't know if either of them are coming back for a 5th year or not. Uluave, an all-court player, is also a senior who may or may not be coming back. So, the back row could be thin next year, depending on who comes back.

I was probably a bit unfair saying every local player, Morman is an SUA product and has been productive, if a little shaky, at setter. I think losing the girl from Tennessee definitely made a dent in their plans, and part of me wonders how much Covid hurt with young players transferring closer to home due to the severe isolation a lot felt in the nom-revenue sports.
