Jamey Rootes joins Rice’s Department of Sport Management
This is a HUGE get for Rice and the Sports Management department. He'll be heading up the new Sports Analytics major (first offered this semester). This has been in the works for quite some time, but I'm glad he finally decided to come onboard...

...this hiring will only solidify Rice Sport Management's #1 ranking nationally.

Hope he lasts longer at Rice than he did as the CEO of the Houston Dynamo. A whopping 18 days. Between the Texans and the Dynamo, he should be well prepared for dysfunctional athletics.

There has to be a good story there.

You’d think so. 20+ years with the Texans. 18 days with the Dynamo.

Apparently a suicide. So horrible.
On a brighter note (almost anything is a brighter note than that), the Department of Sport Management has apparently been funded based on a donation from Thomas and Carrie Hutchinson. Hutch was a rugby player back in the early 1990s, about the time that I got back interested in Rice rugby. IIRC, he was originally recruited to play football, but moved over to rugby. A lot of the rugby players from that era got into private equity/venture capital, most of them in the Chicago area, and they have done very well.
