Not me, for just VT. I want that conference championship. If it was a choice of starting out 5-0 and then losing the rest, or starting out 0-5 and win the rest for a championship, I’d take beating VT, ECU, UVA and LU.

This season opener against the Hokies is only two weeks away, so let's get the game thread going. The Hokies finished the 2021 season at 6-7 with a loss to Maryland in the in the Pinstripe Bowl. They have seven returning starters on defense. On offense, the Hokies have have lost the quarterback and both of their leading receivers from 2021, but they have the tight end and four members of the O-line returning. After a competition between two incoming transfer quarterbacks, Tech has named previous Marshall quarterback Grant Wells as the starter. We owe Mr. Wells some payback as he threw the OT winning TD in our loss to Marshall last year.

The Monarchs have ten starters returning on offense. QB Hayden Wolff completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,933 yards and 10 TDs and led the team to five straight wins to end the regular season. Blake Watson rushed for 1,112 yards and 8 TDs. Ali Jennings caught 62 passes for 1,066 yards, an average gain of 17.2 yards per catch and 5 TDs, and All C-USA conference tight end Zach Kuntz had 71 receptions for 674 yards and 5 TDs. We also have eight starters returning on defense with some transfer help coming for the secondary. By the way, the word is the coaches are pretty excited about how the defense is looking here in August.

The betting line opened with Tech favored by 8.5 but has since dropped a point to 7.5. Can the Monarchs pull off another home field upset of the Hokies on national television? I think they can. Cheers, all!

We have come a long way to only being a moderate underdog. I honestly do not think we will win and will be pleased with a competitive performance. We better be ready b/c VT is going to show up to put little brother in his place. First ten mins of the game will tell how the game will play out.

The first 10 minutes of the last game v Tech at Foreman Field was incredibly lopsided towards the Hokies, with a long touchdown run up the middle for Peoples and Steven Williams (was it him) as starting QB. Bobby has some stinkers, but his adjustments that game were freaking brilliant.

Any news on tailgate start time for a Friday game . I heard 5 pm it that would be horrible if so.

I don’t think BW’s adjustments were brilliant. The game plan was the deep ball b/c VT didn’t have the talent at CB to beat our WRs. The game was won b/c VT was too stubborn to stop playing press coverage. We kept beating them deep and yet they kept playing press coverage. I was in the stadium for the game and that is my recollection.

So ,much has changed since 2018, that I believe that game is irrelevant going into the opener. I am not sure which way the game goes, but I do feel the footing is more even than in past match ups. We were beaten last year, but we were not beaten up, which happened way too much under Bobby.

I am taking ODU and the points while not being surprised if we win outright.

He did not start SW did. BL came in on the second series of the game backed up to the 1 yard line. First play he dropped back (from the 1) and hit Duhart on a go route to the left side for about 20-30 yard gain.

I remember when he dropped back (from the 1) thinking to my self NO, NO, NO, but then it quickly became YES, YES, YES.

That game was magical.

Interesting comment from ESPN.

"Sept. 2-3: Virginia Tech at Old Dominion, NC State at East Carolina, North Carolina at Appalachian State. Three "What on Earth were they thinking??" road trips for ACC teams. I would be shocked if they went 3-0."
