I'll definitely agree Reagan is overrated by conservatives & a lot of what we see today has their roots in the Nixon era.

DeSantis comes across as vindictive and populist to me, kinda like Trump, just not as orange. He might not be a complete sociopath like Trump, but even that's not clear yet.

Reagan was nothing but a puppet for the filthy rich and that wealth inequality (something that tends to destroy societies eventually) continues to climb as we speak. And BTW, good ol' Bill Clinton sent much of Reagan's economic policy into overdrive and nobody R or D has really tried to fix this neoliberal sh!t sandwich despite the screeching on the right that the Dems are radical socialists.

Not defending any of the other presidents but it's Reagan that made the most lasting mark.

So far, but Trump's making a really good run at it. Depending on what happens with our respect for our democracy (or lack of it), in part due to Trump, over the next several years Reagan might be eclipsed in that regard.

Got any specific reasons or just a gut feeling?

The whole Disney World thing. Don't Say Gay laws. His reactions to the pandemic. Partly gut feeling at this point as he is more deliberate with his pronouncements than Trump. Sneakier. I disagree with most things that Governor Abbott does, particularly with turning Texas into a theocracy, but I don't get the same greasy vibe from him that I get from DeSantis.

I didn't know anything about Trump before he ran for President, but it was obvious early in his campaign that he was a pathological liar, making even other politicians look honest. But apparently 70 million people, though they had other options, decided that that was okay.

And if you don't think that half (maybe more) of what used to be the Republican party hasn't turned authoritarian, why did they have Viktor Orban, of all people, at their CPAC conference? You couldn't be any more blatant.

Okay, so yes, DeSantis is a sociopath, now that he's being less careful about his pronouncements and what kind of person he is. (I can see clearly now, the rain is gone....)
