Who has influence in the new Big 12?
Typically each conference has a few schools who can throw their weight around and influence the others on internal conference matters. You also tend to get groups of like-minded schools who tend to vote in blocks.

What I’m struggling to figure out is what that power structure is going to look like in the new Big 12. Whose going to have influence because their opinion matters more and what will the internal cliques look like?

obviously the old big 8 will clique up. baylor and tcu have similar institutional goals. ucf, cincy and houston might have similar interests as well.

I think the Pokes throw weight. Baylor and Kansas are probably second in line.

RE: Who has influence in the new Big 12?
I honestly don't think any programs will have outsized power over the others. Individual schools and administrators will have issues they feel strongly about, but I think after dealing with Texas and its BS the past 25-plus years, there's a genuine appreciation among the member institutions, presidents and ADs for an environment where all voices are heard and weighed equally.

I truly believe that's a big part of what makes the new Big 12 work. It's essentially the only conference of co-equals, and mutual self-preservation has all of the members working in concert in the best interest of the league.

No one has Texas or even Ohio State type of power and I don’t know the Big 12 politics but if I had to guess I’d go with Baylor and Okie St. with the most at the current moment. Texas Tech, Kansas, and TCU next in line. Outsider perspective.

It's all about brand, right?

Well, I'm looking around the room and see only one of us with a CFP pedigree. Gotta count for something, right?

A balanced conference is better than a top heavy one.

RE: Who has influence in the new Big 12?
The two "big-headed" schools are leaving the B12 so I don't see a power issue like Washington and Oregon are going to do throwing their weight around the rest of the P12. This is where Commish Yormark can really build the nB12 brand in both football and hoops. I'm still salivating at the hoops lineup...

The conference looks to be fairly balanced in terms of voice by school. I think that will make it much stronger over time as no one school or group will feel bullied.

Note the CFP part—Cincinnati is the only new Big 12 school with an appearance.

As much as I like Cincinnati, the Bearcats won’t be the power brokers.

Agree. Nope on the CFP pedigree. That's just a beauty pageant with agendas.

Was thinking CF pedigree.

Wrong! Every Tuesday will be older women going on dates with hot singles in their area. Wednesday will be choke night, but not for the reasons you think.
