Honestly I expect all of App State home games to be 30k and up this year.

Yep, that was Larry Fedora's first game as HC at Southern Miss. Oddly enough, Louisiana's QB that game is now their HC. We won that game in a blow-out. Here's to hoping that happens again this year in front of a national audience (ESPNU). I'll just be happy with just a dub of any kind.

Forgot that Dez was still QB in 08. Damn he is young, lol. But glad he has the 08 game to motivate him even more this year. Should be a great game, and I will be there with 2 buddies in tow.

Marshall/App has potential to be big this year, but I don't think everyone has bough in yet. If we are undefeated up to that point or at least a good showing in South Bend I think it'll be a big crowd. Home schedule is too lite, OOC, to be a big season ticket draw. Once they see the Sunbelt games I think that will be enough in the future to bring fans on it's own merits. Us old timers know all the teams, but we are an aging fanbase and we have to get the younger generation involved. They've never been exposed to what it's like around here when we're winning big time.

Even though we don't have the largest stadium, I still think the JMU @ AppState game will be the highest attended conference game of the upcoming season, I'd guess around 32K but it could easily hit 35K.

The Louisiana @ Southern Miss definitely has a chance, but the Southern Miss @ Coastal will most certainly not be considering it only holds about 21K (and truthfully only about 10K Chant fans, on a good day) 03-lmfao

IDK, the Troy game at CF 11/5 will be a big one, and of we are doing well we should have a very good t/o for us.

Yeah yeah yeah. I'll let it pass considering App has never been to Brooks when Coastal is actually good. (Limited capacity in 2020 doesn't count) 01-lauramac2 If both schools are decent this season, that game is a sellout.

We would've sold out some games last year had our opponents actually brought fans. I'm confident the expanded SBC East should bring more visiting fans.

If App wins either of those games the JMU game will likely have a ton of people. If App wins both, there should also be a ton.

Marshall is not selling tickets in the upper endzone general admission sections this season. So capacity at the Joan will be 30,000 instead of 38,000. I guess if it looks like we could go over 30K we could always open up some of those seats.

I doubt it. From what I understand, there are structural issues. The end zone bleachers will be coming down in the relatively near future.

RE: Highest attended SBC conference games - past/upcoming season?
I’d guess the top attended games this year are JMU @ App, Troy @ App, App @ Marshall. Louisiana @ Southern Miss has the potential in the future but I feel like USM needs to build the fan base back up some. UL @ Marshall & Coastal @ Marshall are big games but UL & Coastal won’t travel well to Marshall and the UL game is midweek so I just don’t see those being what App @ Marshall is attendance wise. App @ Coastal is huge too but Coastal doesn’t have the attendance or fan support to match up to those other games in attendance. I also think Marshall @ Troy will be very well attended.

In 2021 Coastal vs App State had 31k.

I believe these are top 3.

As for this season App State at Marshall probably will be the highest attended since Marshall has a larger stadium capacity than most of the rest of us.

In 2012, Arkansas State vs MTSU had 31,243 fans as we beat them 45-0.
That 31k for the app game still makes me angry. Playing for our first CCG, at home, last game for Napier, and with a population of ~600k in the area, and the best we could do was 31k. Just shameful.

Imho, we won’t see decent numbers until the stadium renovation is done and we better hope that we’re still doing as well as we have been. LFT is a ‘what’s the next shiny, cool thing to do,’ kind of town, so the old and very run-down stadium just kills us…on top of all the other usual issues.

ETA: ok, let me cool my jets just a bit. We have to also keep in mind that there were maybe 1k app fans there, so the 30k was all us. Still wanted to see it sold out though. And the game atmosphere was wonderful with a very loud and enthusiastic crowd.

To me the most impressive Cajun crowd was the 2011 New Orleans bowl. It was electric.

Also peak pregame Hud schmedium visor rope performance, bleeding coach, and a walk off FG. It was epic

San Diego State stood no chance after that speech.

Louisiana hosted MTSU around ‘09 and drew a huge crowd. In typical Cajun fashion, at the time, we laid an egg.

Damn, structural issues?? That's no bueno. Can you share some pics of what sections will be taken down? Will Marshall be doing any renovations to add seats back?

Should ODU and JMU ever get to the place in their budgets where they can afford to expand their FB stadiums the yearly contests between the schools could fill 30-35k…maybe more. Rivalries are a good thing, especially in-state, easy to travel to rivalries.
