How will the next ACC/ESPN look in period go?
ACC is going to need a large increase to stay within the same league as the 2 most powerful contracts, but ESPN seemingly doesn’t need to agree to anything during the look in.

The ACC is not keeping up with the Super 2 and it won't. ESPN decided the matter with its paydays and its SEC hype. The gap will not be closed. That ship has left the barn. That horse has sailed.

For better and for worse, the ACC does stand to be the undisputed #3 in revenues.

ACC needs to find ways to generate revenue outside of ESPN and TV money. Maybe they become the first ever league that goes by a corporate name. "The Bank of America Atlantic Coast Conference" becomes their official name.

ACC teams have shown that they can compete with SEC schools as long as the gap is not more than about $15 million/year. So if the SEC will be getting $750M/14 = $54M/yr, then ACC schools need at least $39M/yr (a raise of about $11M/yr in TV money, which is doable IMHO).

This is how it will go

ACC: Pay us more money
ESPN: Why?
ACC: because
ESPN: No.
End scene

Right. The only thing the look-in does is they look for ways to make both sides more money. Otherwise, nothing happens.

This is why the ACC may be very interested in a P12N merger with ACCN, as at least it could significantly bump up the digital side of the deal. Otherwise there is no reason for ESPN or ESPN+ to up the money from the contracted escalator.

Potentially some ESPN+ inventory or movement of regional network games to the ESPN family. And then the conference eliminated divisions which in theory helps keep the matchups fresh and prioritize some rivalry games that weren’t played too much. Outside of that I’m not sure what is a win win.

It'll be the Pac-2 after the B1G is done cherry pickin' and the XII convinces the Four Corners 4 the ACC is a sinking ship

Even if the SEC and B1G went to 24 each, there would still be more left in the ACC/PAC than in the BigXII.

ESPN could also point to the PAC and Big 12 and say that compared to them you (the ACC) appear to now be overpaid. We propose a 10% paycut.

I cant remember ESPN ever just giving away money at the look in. The only "look in" increases Ive ever seen came as part of an extension---which would just make a bad ACC situation worse.

Remember: the Big XII is "secure" because they "don't have any teams anyone else wants"!

Then the ACC can point to the national title trophy case and say 'No, pay us like a league that does that.'

Definitely. PAC schools need stability and media resources, and the ACC is standing there with the ACCN. The coastal schools complement each other in terms of academic emphasis and culture as well as media markets and time zones. Something could be worked out.

It's unlikely to be a 100-year arrangement. All it needs to do is keep everyone standing and punching through 2036
