Agreed. Louisville would easily get the bid there before West Virginia. Pittsburgh as well.

Hey, it has happened before.

Though both the Greater Bay Area and Washington have between 7.5m and 8m people, while Oregon has between 4m and 4.5m people, while Stanford is #2 in the world, AWRU 2021 with Washington #19, while Oregon is in the world #301-400 tier.

If it's musical chairs and you could rig the game... I just cannot count out Oregon. They've had some terrible losses in recent years, but they've always been right there. They are a national draw. I cannot say the same about Washington.... but yeah, they have the better market, no doubt.

Stanford is Stanford. In my mind, they are the biggest get behind ND and maybe a push vs UNC, who is the best get from an all-around standpoint.

If the B1G could only take two schools in this ten year window and ND is off the board, for me, it's Stanford and Oregon. I would take Stanford Cal if I'm thinking longer term and politics got in the way... say 25 year time frame. But we are in a 10 year timeframe tops.

I still can't see how ND passes on joining with Stanford unless the independence contract really is comparable. 20 million is too big a difference to pass.

Iconic can still be really ugly. Now if Oregon did join the Big 10, they would no longer have the worst uniforms in their conference. Maryland tops them.

wooooo, that potential UO-UM game could only be more eye-popping (nice way to put it) if they played it at Boise State... and I'm a Quack fan... 03-drunk

B1G adds ND, Stanford, U-Dub, Oregon, Cal, Mizzou, KU and Duke

SEC adds Clemson, FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, UNC, NC State, UVA, VT, WVU

Not a bad fit in the whole bunch!

ACC schools are just going to up and leave, are they?

No one is going to 24.

I really don't think number of programs will be as big of an issue - if the B1G and/or SEC see value in a team or even POTENTIAL value, they will tack them on, whether it results in 18, 24, 27, whatever...

The only B1G numbers that are relevant currently are:
CBS = Tree Fiddy
NBC = Tree Fiddy
FOX = at LEAST Tree Fiddy...

I honestly wish it would be Washington and Oregon, but I know those BIG Presidents are drooling over Stanford. We shall see where this ends up. Heck, I think ASU would a really great addition; they just have too much going against them.

...I think the NW quartet (UO, UW, Stan, Cal) will most likely ALL be picked for the B1G - Cal may have the 'litigation' stuff going on as a catalyst for them to be 'tacked on'... but in general, I would be QUITE surprised if the 'endgame' for the B1G wouldn't have at LEAST 4 west coast programs, if anything to have more opportunities for the 'late night' games... I for one would LOVE to see someone like Wisky or PSU roll into Autzen Stadium for a 9:30 CST kick (Go Ducks!!! (sorry S.E.AK! 03-drunk ))

RE: ESPN (Rittenberg) article on Big Ten Media Rights being finalized
I think it's aligning for the PAC 4 to get in, or at least PAC3+ND with Newsome cheering on Cal-Berk championships in Rugby and Women's Field Hockey. It also sets up ESPN to put Big 12 games in prime time on ESPN/2 featuring BYU/Utah/Colorado. There is really no reason for any major network to bid on the Big 12 and PAC 12 independently aside from potential favorable terms on an ultra short term deal.

The only scenario that halts additional realignment is the Big12/Fox locking down Big Noon on non-B1G noon Saturdays and ESPN bidding for a prime time package on ESPN/2 for both the PAC/Big 12.

It's scary for the PAC12 right now, knowing that the major networks have locked in the B1G and SEC as their preferred prime time tier 1 content. All their major conference games will end up on cable or some independent streaming service if they stay the course.

As long as next weeks game is The Ohio State against my Dawgs on Montlake, I'm good with it. 02-13-banana

It's coming! Rittenberg said last week it would happen after media rights were completed and this is her way of throwing nuggets out there.

But will they pay enough to make it worthwhile for the Big 10?

Good question. I don't know how it could, but there appears to be confidence that it will happen. I struggle with Oregon being added, but Washington and Stanford would probably be the highest valued pair out west? I just worry that the Stanford Tree may be taken down when it visits Columbus. That is one of the most obnoxious mascots right along with their band!

The Stanford band is not just obnoxious, they're flat out A-holes in no way resembling an organized band that provides fans any entertainment. If Stanford ever joins the Big Ten, I expect their band to be banned from all Big Ten stadiums.

They’ve done a pretty good job staying off the field until the game is officially over for the past 39 years.

Their band is great. Almost as good as Rice's MOB. You just have to have a sense of humor. Now in the 70s one time, Rice made fun of A&M traditions and had to get a police escort out of town. Aggies were trying to attack their bus. But Aggies don't have a sense of humor.

While TV people on a 7 year deal might slightly favor Oregon, I suspect Big 10 presidents overwhelmingly favor Washington.
