I hate Appy or Appy State as much as any App grad, but embarrassingly I will admit I kind of get a kick out of "the Happy Appys"

Most of all, I hate calling us the 'Neers.

Totally agree on the 'Neers. Don't know how that garbage got started.

I think a Sports Writer in Huntington started calling ya'll Appy State back in the 80's.

I wasn't aware of that origin story. Would make sense if true. I call them App State or Appy. I heard "Appy" from an App State dude years ago so it kind of stuck.

I like GS for Georgia Southern. I didn't like GSU when I was in school... My dad is a Georgia Tech grad, so I've always known about Georgia State being GSU and that's what I associated with them. They were called the night school, or the commuter school by GT fans.

The term Appy has been around a lot longer than in the 80s. Family were going to App in the 70s and Happy Appy was a phrase then.

My mom's cousin came down from Ohio to play football at Lenior Rhyne in the mid 1960s and told me at a family reunion in the 90s that they called us Happy Appys back in his playing days.
