B1G to earn $1.5 Billion
according to Front Office Sports:

"Before USC and UCLA announced they would join the Big Ten in 2024, the conference was already on track to garner up to $1 billion annually in its new media rights deal. But after the addition, media partners were told to “go back to the drawing board,” Front Office Sports previously reported.

Now, the Big Ten hopes to kick that number up by 50% to at least $1.5 billion annually, sources told Front Office Sports."

Other highlights from the article:

-- As indicated by the article TerryD posted, NBC is making an aggressive play for a Saturday Night package. My speculation from other resources is that NBC is emphasizing exposure vs. the $$$$ that Amazon is proposing. The leak yesterday may have been a public pitch from NBC (or a trial balloon from the B1G).

-- NBC, ESPN and CBS are frustrated with the role Fox is playing in the negotiations.

$94M/YR is insane but will more than cover those increased travel costs for USC & UCLA. Almost doubling the money they would have made in the PAC-12.

Are Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and Cal honestly worth $94M to split revenue with?

Big 10 will split but of schools worth after this contract. 4 more pay schools would just get their 4 school worth split. Will be worth so much more though.

Give them half shares of $47M a piece.

I think the B1G is better off just holding.

Too many schools that do not get the views because they suck in football. Adding two of the worst PAC 12 schools made the conference even worst. Nobody will tune in to watch losers.

To be honest with that much money every flight could be chartered which would be faster than normal commercial flights and probably coming out the same. If you have a 4 hour flight to Nebraska but can hope on a private charter plane immediately after the game and don’t have to wait around or deal with commercial onboarding, TSA, etc it would
be about the same as flying or taking a bus to SF or AZ

USC & UCLA will regret the move within 3 years. Maybe UCLA will be saved from themselves by the State of California. The money will just be wasted on administrators and travel.

I actually think this increases the chances Notre Dame joins in '26, as the price to stay independent got more expensive. This is good news for Stanford too.

Everyone always forgets the conference gets a share. Still, that's a nice 88.2 million, if they indeed get 1.5 billion.

You’re right I forgot to factor that in. Still though I’m not sure anyone outside of ND is worth $88.2M to the B1G.

Wasnt Notre Dame itself supposedly just shooting for 75 million? Even that number would fall shy of 88 million---though in fairness----the context of that 75 million ask is as an indy team.

USC and UCLA won't regret the move because it makes sense strategically and financially. They will find the travel more burdensome than they expected, and their players and coaches and fans will wish they didn't have to deal with it, but Hawaii has overcome an even greater travel burden for half a century on a budget that's miniscule by comparison. USC and UCLA will figure it out.

This.

The article is just reporting what the B1G wants. That doesn't mean the B1G will necessarily get that much.

That was when the Big Ten estimates were vaguely around $1.2B. $1200M/16 = $75M. I'd bet that NBC can keep Notre Dame by writing it into the contract that Notre Dame's NBC money plus ACC Network share will equal the average of the top 5/10/25 FBS school's TV revenues. If Notre Dame is halfway between B1G money and SEC money, they're fine.

Hawaii has no choice - either travel or don't have a team. USC & UCLA don't have that problem.
