I think the SEC money probably means OK still jumps to the SEC later. Timeline may change but likely only difference is PAC stuck st 11 instead of 10. USC and UCLA still move.

Yeah Oklahoma would be on their way out with Texas to the SEC

Oklahoma St is then stuck out west

If the Pac were to somehow take OU and OSU together, then they would have found a way to bring Texas and the LHN (if necessary) over, along with probably Tech. Texas was always the golden prize for the Pac. Stanford and Cal would have been very happy, and USC would have been satisfied. A Pac with OU and Texas would have been able to generate enough revenue to keep USC happy.

And, the upcoming SEC deal was negotiated with OU and Texas in mind, though they were not part of the conference yet. It's not known if the SEC would have been able to generate enough $$$ to pull OU and/or Texas from a Pac 16.

However, this is all so moot. The 2011 attempt to take OU and OSU alone as a package was a ridiculous attempt by former OU president David Boren to save face. The Pac never wanted CTZ expansion without Texas. Boren had been a fool throughout the entire realignment period. Once the Pac nixed the OU/OSU/UT/KU(?) expansion, Boren shopped OU and OSU together as a package to both the Pac and the SEC. The SEC wanted OU to come with A&M, but not OSU. OU turned them down, then the SEC took Missouri. Boren then presented the OU/OSU package to the Pac. The Pac laughed in his face.

Boren was a longtime Oklahoma politician, having served as both governor and as a US senator before becoming the president of OU. He had family ties to both OU and OSU. His name is actually on a building at OSU. He felt an obligation to take care of both schools. OU is in the Big 12 today because Boren tried to take care of OSU along with OU. The realignment saga was one of many things (but not the worst thing) that led to his unceremonious departure as president. Once he was gone, OU had leadership that looked out for OU and OU alone. This led to OU's newest opportunity with the SEC.

I wasn't happy with the last 11 years in the Big 12, but it was much better than being in a Pac 16. I look forward to being in the SEC.

Oklahoma still leaves. Good luck with those trips to Stillwater!

OU is likely going to look back yearning for a redo imo. Soon becoming like Ok St will be difficult on them. Their fans can’t even handle 11 am kickoffs

Texas and Tech eventually join. The Pac 12 Network gets carriage in the central time zone and money wise the league is fine.

Texas would have been forced to join alongside OU.

The league would have been profitable enough that I doubt Texas and OU would have left for the SEC. Let alone USC and UCLA leaving for the BIG.

OU-A&M
OU-LSU
OU-Texas
OU-Alabama
OU-Georgia
OU-Florida

aren't going to start at 11 AM. Probably not even OU-Arkansas or OU-TN. Maybe not OU-Auburn or OU-Miss St/Ole Miss most years.

The only game that would get bumped to that time slot might be OU-Vandy. Even OU-USCe might be worthwhile with their new coach.

Probably not, but I don’t think the money difference would have been big enough that OU and UT would have left for the SEC.

I think that half the reason why OU and UT joined the SEC was because of a still persistent feeling of instability in the Big 12, anyway. Not merely because of money. It’s not like a PAC-16 would have had that instable feeling.

It would be way harder for the presidents (who cares a lot about academic peers) of UT and OU to leave elite academic schools like Cal, Stanford, UCLA, ect to leave the PAC16 for the SEC vs the Big 12 whose best school academically probably was UT.

PAC16 while not the SEC, the money would have been a lot closer.

11 am kickoffs are an issue, but they're not the only issue. 11 am kickoffs became an issue when 1) half to 2/3 of the games (especially home games) were played at 11 am, and 2) when marquee games such as last year's Nebraska game are played at 11 am. In the case of that game, OU specifically asked the Big 12 and Fox to have the game played at night, as OU conducted a weekend-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1971 Game of the Century. OU was denied.

This became a bigger issue when Fox made the 11 am window their main game of the week (Big Noon Saturday). One or two 11 am games are fine...they're the price of doing business. Even Alabama plays 11 am games. Repeated 11 am games are bad for local merchants and are hard for recruiting visits. It's hard to fly recruits in after Friday night games for a Saturday 11 am game.

11 am kickoffs won't go away with the move to the SEC. There will be 11 of 16 SEC schools in the Central time zone. There are plenty of 11 am games on the SEC Network...and we'll have our share of dud non-conference matchups played at 11 am for that channel. We'll play Missouri at 11 am just like we used to. But, with the novelty of OU in the SEC, we will hopefully have more 2:30 and prime time kickoffs, at least in the first few years. With the SEC national window at 2:30 on ABC (formerly the CBS game), I would expect the Texas game to move to that time slot.

Crazy for the pac to turn down OU and OK state. Should have

1) added OU, Ok state, Kansas and KSU ( this destroys the big 12)

2) open invites to the pair of Texas and Texas Tech

3) maybe jump to 20 with Houston and X

A Pac 16 scenario with carriage at the time would have been the top revenue conference or battling the Big 10 for that spot. Go back an reread some of the conversations around the Pacs tv deals.

All things being equal at worst the Pac16 would be 3rd right now in rights money but would be neglible with the SEC and Big Ten.

It would only have precipitated Texas leaving the BigXII sooner. Without non-AAU Oklahoma in tow, Texas would have joined the B1G- maybe along with Kansas. Oklahoma, USC, and UCLA would still be exiting for the SEC/B1G now.
