It happens all the time even when we aren't having realignment. Somebody somewhere simply wants to know their market worth to neighboring conferences, so they don't get caught flatfooted when and if it starts up again. I'd say right now the hair on the back of the neck on every school's president is standing up. They all know what's coming, they just aren't sure exactly when. There's a lot of sweaty palms and dry mouths waiting on a coming barrage.

Very interesting interview both in what he said and in the questions he didn't want to answer.

Anyway, I'd just like to point out that Dan Patrick, the guy who allegedly doesn't know anything and just throws stuff against the wall, is considered credible enough for Greg Sankey to have a nice conversation with.

I mean, when's the last time Sankey took time to talk to a YouTube rumor monger?

Dan Patrick says crazy things like UCF to the SEC though. Just because Sankey grants him an interview, doesn't mean he has inside info.

The ACC was never going to compete with the coterminous P2s in revenue, so without GOR length, it was dead. It still could be, but at least schools will get some utility in it being killed off now.

The extended grant of rights was agreed to as a condition for ESPN to set up a conference network. ESPN wanted the grant of rights to last until 2039. John Swofford argued it down to 2036.

The network was intended to keep the ACC competitive in revenues with the emerging P2.

The ACC is not staying competitive in revenues with the emerging P2. But the network is profitable. It's a resource PAC and B12 schools don't have. And it keeps the ACC steady at #3.

The last time he talked to Dan Patrick. Looks like Greg Sankey is having to explain some very basic things. 'You should understand conversations I have go well beyond membership.'

Ol' John Swofford was one tough negotiator.

Yeah. That's such a #goacc detail.

That's not necessarily relevant. How many people actually know how the sausage is made? How many people are privy to the nature of such conversations?

My only point was that Dan Patrick is a serious journalist otherwise Sankey wouldn't give him the time of day. I think this narrative that he's searching for clicks when he talks about realignment is a bit silly. There aren't very many with a more robust yet independent platform. He's got plenty of money and a long career that suggests he's not a troll.

Doesn't make his assertions correct, but just because one thing doesn't come to fruition does not mean power brokers haven't discussed it.

RE: sankey interview
UCF might be a very interesting add to SEC. They do not have a pro football team to compete against them for fans and viewers like Miami does.
