Cool UIW mens soccer booted from WAC
They were an affiliate member and they are not on any of the WAC soccer schedules for 2022. Only HBU, also a WAC affiliate member, has them on their schedule, twice.

After what they pulled by abandoning/screwing over the conference they deserve it.

Don't blame the WAC one bit.

Gets the WAC down to ten members (four are affiliates), which makes scheduling easier anyway.

It seems petty to punish a non-revenue sport team for the actions of their institution.

It seems petty to wait until the “last minute” to tell a conference you’re not joining and still expect them to keep your unneeded soccer team.

But UIW soccer is part of that institution? I also would guess this was negotiated/mentioned when UIW was debating between the Southland/WAC initially.

Maybe the ASun or SoCon would take them? There's surprisingly few men's soccer programs in Texas - UIW, Houston Baptist, SMU, and UTRGV appear to be the only ones.

If they had declined the invitation to begin with I agree it would be petty to kick out their men's soccer team. But to agree to move and then cancel at the last minute isn't very nice as it left WAC football in a lurch.

Pro tip...If you are an affiliate in a conference that really doesn't need your presence, don't piss off the mother ship. Notice Houston Baptist (also not needed) is still an affiliate in good standing.

Maybe they had signed a contract converting their affiliate membership to a full membership. That makes more sense than saying that they would playing women's soccer as a full member and men's soccer as an affiliate.

UIW does have games scheduled against Furman and Campbell as part of a Houston Invitational. It also has a game at ORU.

Agreed. The WAC was doing UIW a favor by hosting their men’s soccer team. It was UIW that extinguished any reason for the WAC to continue doing that favor.

1. In November 2021 UIW agreed to join the WAC as an all-sports member beginning this fall.
2. Just five weeks ago UIW reneged and told the WAC it would stay in the Southland instead.
3. The WAC asked UIW to at least play football in the WAC this coming season so as to save all of the WAC football programs from having to scramble at the last minute to replace UIW on their schedules; UIW refused.
4. When the WAC men’s soccer schedule appeared UIW was not on it.

On number 2, that is without context. A better of way of saying it would be, “UIW backed out of their commitment to join, 1 week before they were supposed to”. It hasn’t even been 2 months. It’s the fact they did it at the “last minute” and jacked with the football schedule.

Yep, since their scheduled transition date was July 1st it was actually just a week before joining that they backed out. It was a bush league move.

The WAC is famous for shooting themselves in the foot.

RE: UIW mens soccer booted from WAC
UIW leaving WAC football schedule in the lurch is one of the few times where I think a conference booting their affiliate in response is reasonable. That they have a SLC football schedule means UIW knew well before they backed out that this was going to be their action.

Justified IMO.
