Fired for Title IX complaints? I'm confused. Anyone have more details?

Apparently Harris kicked two players off the basketball team for having a relationship with each other. That's what the rumor is

I am guessing that it had to be several issues adding up but is only a guess.

I heard the same, and assuming it's true, hat's a title IX violation and a violation of NCAA rules. We have to report it to the NCAA. Women's basketball has a long, long road. Hopefully Sander can fix it. And whatever happened with softball? And what happened last year with the men's soccer coach? Never found out about any of that.

Carter took over an athletics program on an upward trajectory not seen in modern times and basically proceeded to run it into the ground. The community/public perception of the overall program has probably never been lower than now. Almost too many crises to remember. The biggest question is how his fanboy hire of Quarles will turn out. Fair to say the track record isn’t great. It’s too bad. He seems like a decent guy with a lot of ETSU passion but the job was too big for him. Just hate to see us continue to follow that 1 step up 3 steps back approach that has haunted us for decades.

2-3 years ago: Forbes has MBB firing on all cylinders. Freedom Hall is packed. Sanders has football on the path to a conference championship, national rankings and sold out crowds. Scott Carter is leading the department with a passion and love for the program that has not seen before.

In the past 2-3 years: Pandemic, NIL, transfer portal, Sanders retires, Forbes leaves, Carter resigns, MBB apathy, flag/kneeling/Shay/fiasco, NCAA/Title IX investigation, softball coach investigation...etc

Hell of rough patch we are going through

Sanders says the timing is just coincidental. Ain’t nobody buying that. In Carter’s defense, the challenges facing mid major college athletics have never been bigger. The whole thing is a slow moving train wreck being caused by insatiable greed. Those of us at the mid major level have always known the deck was stacked against us but now we’re seeing Power 5 programs get left behind. It’s impossible to know what the finances and overall viability of mid major college sports is going to be in the future.

Agree with what you state. But - what did Carter do? He’s too young to “resign” to be with his family unless he’s independently wealthy. Is his “resigning” related to the Harris firing?

Just too many failed hires, scandals and PR crises. He was lucky to survive the Shay fiasco.

The surprise resignation of East Tennessee State University Athletic Director Scott Carter has "no connection" to Monday's sudden firing of the university's head women's basketball coach following an investigation into alleged Title IX violations, or allegations made against the softball program earlier this year, Interim Athletic Director Richard Sander said at a press conference on Monday.

"Those things are not related at all," Sander said of the timing of Carter's resignation. "This report, I just want to make it perfectly clear, it's just kind of coincidental the timing is what it is."

He just wanted to spend more time with his family. Nothing to see here. Just move along....

Man, there must've been some crap going on over the summer in the athletic department offices.
