An even better way to show them is to spend your dollar votes on the Memphis Tigers.

This is a very reasonable way to support the Tigers and say thank you to those who served. Dont just say thank you actually do something to demonstrate those thanks.

Don’t be so sure about that. I’ve been over on the West Coast for two weeks now. There are a lot of UCLA and USC fans extremely upset at losing their rivals and not being able to drive to away games anymore.…

This would be acceptable for a school going from $7 million to $25 million. This is not acceptable for a school that is rich already making at least $25 million. USC has an endowment of $8.1 billion and UCLA has an endowment of $9.2 billion. They are screwing their fans and putting their players at a competitive disadvantage.

Driving Distances
1,505 Nebraska
1,808 Iowa
1,936 Minnesota
1,985 Wisconsin
2,064 Indiana
2,108 Purdue
2,036 Illinois
2,233 Michigan State
2,250 Michigan
2,256 Ohio State
2,583 Penn State
2,690 Maryland
2,776 Rutgers

Right now UCLA and USC have 5 conference mates that are within a day drive. They are completely screwing their fans.

Caring about fans went out the window when the Nebraska / Oklahoma rivalry ended. When the Arkansas /Texas rivalry ended for 30 years. When the Texas / Texas A&M rivalry ended for a decade. Fans are nothing compared to the TV dollar

Yep - just expected to shut up, write checks, and attend - THEY know best! Pfffftttt.

What this demonstrates is that TV football is more important to these so-called power programs than traditional rivalries are. So the only way to affect them is to boycott their revenue source. I stopped watching the NFL when they said they didn't need Memphis. So I just said I dont need the NFL. For the past 20 years the number of NFL games including playoffs and superbowls I have watched is zero. It wasn't far from that for me to stop watching SEC/B1G etc football. For 10 years or so the only football I have watched is the Tigers or when they are in the conference title hunt I will watch their main competition in the conference. I have found this very satisfying and I have a lot more time available to pursue other interests. Including getting off the couch more often.

I like football. I am very excited to watch my Covington Chargers compete in 3A football, despite the fact that the TSSAA has 4A, 5A, and 6A schools that play at a higher level.

I have two degrees from Tenn Tech, which plays what was once called Div 1-AA football. I always enjoyed watching the Golden Eagles compete in the OVC when I was a student. The fact that the team wasn’t the SEC did not affect my enthusiasm. Then I moved away from Cookeville and it was hard to follow the program from afar in those days.

While living in the Memphis area, I went to watch Alabama play at Memphis State in 1986. Surprise! The Tigers won. I was impressed, which eventually led to me becoming a season ticket holder for football, a booster in the Highland Hundred, etc. I have enjoyed being a Tiger fan despite the fact that our school was not in a football conference, or later, was in a “smaller” conference.

The conference we are in does not affect my fandom. The fact that Memphis has only beat UT once in our history does not affect my fandom. I think some of you find the fact that we remain in the AAC as a blow to your ego or your manhood. Can’t you just show up on game day, root for your team to win, and go home happy?

Life is too short to get bent out of shape over what team joins what conference. As The Beach Boys once sang “Be True to Your School”.

Great post. I agree 100%. Thank you.

Same here, except I have been boycotting for years.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS!! Well, I should say, exactly my thoughts pre-2020. Some things DO matter more than football.

From the article: “College football going away from being a fiercely regional sport will eventually kill all that is fun and different about it. The path to becoming NFL Lite is paved with gold for TV execs, the coffers of major athletic departments and the various other power brokers in college sports who do not care what they break in their quest for one more dollar.

The fans of college football get nothing out of this. We don’t see a single dollar, in fact we’ll end up paying MORE money to follow the sport we love. Road trips to see your team cost more, tickets cost more, your cable bill goes up because the networks airing the games can charge the cable company more for their product and so on until you just can’t take it anymore and stop caring.”

You will be for a few years but over time you will end up watching what ESPN, FOX, CBS, etc cover. It may take a few years but most of the mad fans will come back and after 10-15 years the kids that grow up won't remember how it used to be.

Remember the CUSA TV packages? Memphis will have something like that. The $$$$ will be bigger but relatively speaking compared to what Tier 1 will be getting it'll actually be worse.

You do what you gotta do man

Here is the deal, I'm not paying to watch us play in some watered down league with C-USA teams on Thursday nights. I'm not the only one I bet.

If you've seen a demographic map lately, you'll find that, with the exception of a few SEC teams and Ohio St., the entire nation really doesn't give two craps about college ball .. period.

As it should be in its current state.

Yeah. Really?

How are season ticket sales and donations going?

That shite gets said a lot. I know at least 10 alums that have cut the univ off.

How many more do you think need to be run off?

How are the stadium upgrades going?

I know you will be paying to watch your true favorite teams. So why dont you just go to their boards to post. You can still bad mouth the Tigers and their conference like you always have, but you will be with your own kind.
