Scates, Roc Taylor, Lewis, Ivory, Prieskorn….and a fine QB. Seems like a pretty good nucleus to me…hopefully the running game is a little stronger …Drucker might be the key.

The o line is the key.

Unfortunately we have had a historically poor program since the 70's and 6 wins in a season should not be looked down on. I for one remember where we came from.

I think standards change over time and the modern standard for our football team was set by Mike Norvell. I think it’s fair to hold our football program and our football coach to that standard. Eight wins is a minimum expectation here now. It doesn’t matter what happened in decades past. I ain’t interested in ancient history. This is a new era of Memphis football.

I agree standards change just as the landscape has changed. We are now in a conference with similar schools & not an independent playing 4 +/- SEC schools every year like we were in the 70’s & 80’s.

I think you have to use more of an average though instead judging based on single years. I think at this stage & landscape it perfectly fair to expect a greater than 60% winning percentage over the most recent 4-5 year span. This allows for the occasional rebuilding or injury impacted year not to be overly exaggerated in final judgment.

If we get promoted to B12/ACC I would lower my % expectations down until we had established ourselves on equal footing to the rest of the conference.

I'm shocked - such stuff from people that call themselves fans! What in the hell would they say if they really weren't fans? About the same....

I truly despise some of the @ssholes on this board and I’ve never met them.

Really --now thats telling --off with their heads HUH LOL-----god forbid TIGER fans have dissenting/diverse opinions/views --we dont all live in fairy tale PRETENDER land ----some are proponents of facts and realism

I bet everyone that posts here on a regular basis HOPES the TIGERS go 14-0----but it doesn't make you less of a fan if you don't think it will happen --or if you think Miss St will cover the 16.5 ---------------------like someone posted a couple weeks ago---if somebody REALLY thought the TIGERS were going to cover that line or win straight up ---then they would bet the farm with borrowed $$$ on the TIGERS

its one thing to have a dissenting opinion, quite another to bash the coach damn near every post.
A person with a dissenting opinion could say, I don't have much faith in the coaches, and I think we win 3 or 4 games...and leave it at that...but some posters here have to make up snarky/cute (in their minds anyways) nicknames for Coach Ryan Silverfield.
Now I know he gets paid to have thick skin. Taking criticism is a part of the job. The man has obviously been putting in the time and effort, as evidenced by his recruiting.
Some things like injuries are beyond his control.
The things he can control...the jury may be out on still, and that would be a fair assessment.
But to keep saying the same ole ish, over, and over, and over, and over...we get it, some of y'all don't like Ryan Silverfield. It gets really old after a while. No need to keep repeating the same old tired ish over and over.

Again another poster that presumes he/she has the right to dictate how another TIGER fan pose/construct a post---the right to even tell other TIGER fans when and what and how they should post

Do you EVER question the so-called happyclapper fans- with their SAME OLD ISH OVER AND OVER --the fairy tale fans that think we are always the 2nd choice to be called up by any and all conferences --the coach worshippers . The fans that really THINK not HOPE that we are going 14-0--- Do you EVER choose to remind those fans that there is something called reality ---that there is a reason we keep getting passed over on the first segment ---that there is a reason we went 6-6----that there is a reason 1/2 the fan base got turned off--that there is a reason we have trouble raising $$--do you ever question the posters that REPEATEDLY post nonsense that EVERYTHING is ALWAYS 100% rosy @ the university --when anyone with 1/2 a brain knows that isn't the case ---do you ever question the fans that ALWAYS ALWAYS make excuse after excuse like injuries for a loss---like we are the ONLY TEAM TO HAVE INJURIES --the PRETENDER crowd

Can you ever be fair and balanced ?---or are you always biased against facts and realism

There is a reason we went 6-6.
Injuries played a large part in that.
Injuries to the O Line, RBs, and even at QB helped secure that.
Also, our bowl game opponent coming down with COVID, beyond our control. Could have went out on a positive note.
Hawaii was demoralized playing under Norvell mentor Todd Graham, they were ready to lie down and quit.

Now it's true there are some fans who a bit overzealous and predict 14-0. What's wrong with loving your team?
Who gets hurt by that?
Most of us on the board are more grounded in reality. My personal belief is that we'll win 8 games this year. Next year, if Henigan returns, we win the AAC.
Backroom deals with other conferences are fluid. If the Big 12 had expanded and not invited us in it's last expansion merry go round where they ended up taking no one...the ACC was talking to us.
ESPN paid the B12 not to expand.
Can you imagine a scenario where the B12 would interview Rice as an expansion candidate and not Memphis?
Use your head for something other than a hatrack for a change.

I tihink 8 wins is doable. A lot depends on Seth and him staying healthy and how much he improves over last year. The addition of Brady White to the coaching staff should be a big QB asset. Seth could pull off some added surprises this year that can take that win number up. Year two for a college QB can be a big year in terms of progress and performance.

I think most folks would have understood but for you; defense. Coaching and recruits.

Many schools with injuries continue to win with their backup QB, a backup RB etc. Based upon our recruiting there shouldn't be a huge drop-off 2-deep with a key injury, against the schedule we play. We're not playing an SEC schedule & SH was a freshman, after all. We went 3-5 in-conference last season & if we continue to play middle of the conference or worse, we aren't going anywhere. Also attendance will dwindle to nothing. Case in point, UGA won a nat'l title last season with a walk-on backup QB & best receiver out most of the season. Sure you say, they are recruiting 5-stars. Right but they are also playing the SEC & in the playoffs - ITS ALL RELATIVE. We have to do better than 3-5 in-conference in the AAC, no excuses.

And "8 wins doable"??? We've got 3 wins against N AL, ASU & SFA & so you're saying 5 wins in-conference with losses against Cincy, UCF & UH is doable (it should be guaranteed)? That's a shame with the recruiting level over the last 3 years.

My expectations are for the team to represent the University well. It would be great if we won every game especially against the three teams leaving. 8 wins would be great too but if we go 6-6 again I won't be clutching my pearls.

A lot of fans have higher expectations for the football team now than in decades past. I'm not sure why this upsets you? My expectation that the football team should win 8 or more games every year in a G5 conference is "stupid arrogance"? I honestly have no idea what you are angry about, and I doubt that you have the ability to articulate it coherently.

He had a 6-6 season last year and that is beneath the standard of this school’s football program. When criticism gets excessive however is when it seems like you want the coach and the football program to fail. Sometimes some of y’all make it seem like that. When we win 9 games this season I expect most of the critics to change their tunes.

When did you become a fan? 5 years ago?

Unfortunately we have had a historically poor program since the 70's and 6 wins in a season should not be looked down on. I for one remember where we came from.

I think standards change over time and the modern standard for our football team was set by Mike Norvell. I think it’s fair to hold our football program and our football coach to that standard. Eight wins is a minimum expectation here now. It doesn’t matter what happened in decades past. I ain’t interested in ancient history. This is a new era of Memphis football.

According to who? Some clown in ohio?

You sound like an old miss or ut fan with your stupid arrogance.

Go root for ohio state.

Great post. Get ready for jacjjaw to rip into you and me.

...attack jacjjaw --then expect to get ripped ----You think you are the only person that can make rude remarks-----do you actually think that if you attack a poster -they shouldn't respond to the attack----are you beyond reproach ---a KAREN you are aren't you ----I attack a poster when attacked rudely by said poster --not before

I'm shocked - such stuff from people that call themselves fans! What in the hell would they say if they really weren't fans? About the same....

What a surprise that you personally identified with the term '@ssholes'

I think if we can beat Tulane this year, it will be a good season…that’s the key game.

Navy, Tulane, ECU, and SMU are all tough conference road games.
