This is the same panic and bs that was being cried about the AAC a few years ago. Some of you need to actually get some responsibility of your own so you can stop getting bopped on the head by a piece of falling sky.

Memphis vs UNCC/ Memphis vs Boise at the LB. Which one sells more tickets?

Not to mention when we’re left behind in CUSA in 2005. Nobody felt very good about backfilling with UCF, SMU, UTEP, Marshall and Rice. It was the end of the world, especially for basketball.

I think Navy would be a better comparison to Boise.

UNCC would compare to Wyoming, Utah State, Nevada…

Boise out draws Navy, Air Force offsets them. Anyone in the MW outdraws UNCC, FAU, UNT, UTSA and Rice. Its going to come a surprise to a lot people to find out that UNCC even plays football.

I agree. If the B1G and SEC end up pushing to 24 teams then the possible third conference from the leftovers may push to 24 as well. That means we just need to be one of the top 72 schools and we could end up in a very solid conference.

For example Nerdlinger came up with this idea.

Now that we know the B1G has other teams on the radar this could be a possible outcome. Stammers talked about it a little while back, but I had my doubts due to the info available at the time. I've become more optimistic with more recent info. This is why Memphis needs to keep pushing to improve and be in the best position possible instead of "giving up".

Correct. The goal for Memphis is to eventually end up in the "No. 3" league. The hypothetical from nerdlinger outlines the scenario nicely.

Everyone here wants what's best for the Tigers and given the times we are in who can really say what might happen going forward? If anything, the OPs idea is a bit premature, but the landscape may change dramatically over time. The odds might be better for a Best of The Rest conference comprised of (For Example):

USF
ECU
Temple
Tulane
SMU
UM

SDSU
Fresno
Boise
Colo ST
Air Force
Tulsa

By no means perfect - insert your own specific team preferences and reasoning - but not impossible and definitely a span or two better than the new iteration of the AAC. All just my opinion of course and it all becomes moot for us if we manage to get into the 12.

Fans can bring up a multitude of reasons - travel/money/personal bias and preferences/money/travel why none of this will ever become reality. And they may be right.....but, just as nature always finds a way - when and if, our real survival instincts kick-in, the potential possibilities that now seem outrageous and pie-in-the-sky will somehow begin to seem much more reasonable.

?

I wasn't using Stammers as a source if I understand you correctly. You're taking my post completely out of context. I was pointing out how my view has changed since that thread based on the info given by reporters then and now. In fact he was talking about potential directions schools could go in that thread, not about something he heard.

Gotcha 03-thumbsup if you wasn't using him as a source and me taking you out of context then I stand corrected ..... ....however we will just have to agree to disagree about whether or where or who he heard it

I enjoy your posts by the way

Haha thank you. But there is nothing to disagree about if we're talking about the thread I linked. It was an analytical thread, not a source thread.

Yeah and if that conference could get 1/3 to 1/2 of what the P2 will get, that would be a big to huge jump from where we are now.

Absolutely right - somehow left out a major draw for such a new conference.

Something like that conf is about the best that Memphis fans can hope for. Might could even add Army and UAB to the east division and UNLV and Navy to the west and it’s not a bad league. That’s 16 football and 14 basketball with Wichita mirroring Navy.

The ship has sailed I think for everyone left on that list. Everyone left needs a reality check and realize they need each other to make a conference as strong as possible. The planning needs to start now even if everyone waits out GOR and exit fees but if it all comes together in say 5 years the plans need to be made. Could Memphis, Boise, SMU or USF get called up? Sure but making plans now does nothing to stop that.

RE: We need to go ahead and call the Mountain West
Anyone who thinks all of the changes are over now has not been keeping up.

The changes are going to slowly happen starting last summer with OUT & will continue until the top 2-4 ACC schools are in either the B1G or SEC, whether that takes a decade or happens sooner.

While I think ours odds of ending up in either the B12 or ACC is 75%+, there is always a chance things go wrong.

But now is not the time join the MWC. Those teams are like us & will jump at 1st better opportunity provided.

The AAC was hurt last year & odds are very strong the MWC will be hurt this year once the PAC grabs a couple of MWC markets.

As the PAC commissioner noted @ PAC media days, media market is #1 consideration for expansion….over on field success, & even over academics (which probably surprised some PAC loyalists).

2-6 Memphis would draw the same 20K v. Boise as it would FAU.
