Best to sit and wait while trying to be the biggest dog in a small pond. I would try my luck and call PAC 12 since you like westward expansion.

I'm just saying that a conference with Memphis, SMU, Boise, Air Force and Fresno St is much stronger than what the American is going to be. Its not even close.

Amazing how many quitters and doomsdayers this place has.

Quitting is not dealing with reality. Quitting is putting lipstick on a pig. We have been down this road before. Remember CUSA?? Do you???

I do. So this time dominate the conference in football and basketball and be the best of the rest until there's more shakeup. We can either ***** about it or do somethin about. Bitchin is easy. Doin something is not. Anything Easy isn't worth a damn.

I'm saying move on, now. Not later.

Sorry - your “solution” makes absolutely no sense. Bert is correct.

I'm just going to have to disagree. I think the new American is a disaster and we fall further behind staying. Were going to be in a conference with misfit commuter schools with zero history that in no way shape or form big anything to the table.

It is but there is no benefit. The travel alone would probably bankrupt the athletic department.

we get more TV money than the MWC, better exposure than the MWC, and it costs 18 million to leave the AAC.

if you want to play MWC teams root for a merger. JMHO

That's the current deal based on current members. The AAC is going to never get that deal again with UNCC and UTSA ect.

no, it's not...

the remaining 8 members (counting Navy/WSU as one) get their promised rate while the 6 new members split what's left.

plus, the deal has 11 more years on it.

You realize there is a clause in the contract that lets them renegotiate if top schools leave the conference right? Well the top schools are leaving the conference and they will renegotiate once they leave and remember U Conn already left. We get 7 mil a year right now and the MW gets 4. CUSA get 4 to 5 hundred thousand. Bringing in the schools we did was one huge gamble and I never see it paying off. I mean the conference tried to get MW schools to come but they declined so they threw the dice on this misguided plan to bring in metro areas. Going to the MW keeps us much closer to the number we now have and possibly keeps it the same. We are in real danger of sliding back into CUSA/Sunbelt numbers. Just do the math. We need to strike a deal to leave right after the B12 bound teams leave. I hope possibly we already have and its just not announced.

yes, and we're past that...we added who ESPN told us to so as to ensure the 8 remaining schools get to keep their promised payout.

As far as I can tell that is sheer speculation. Possibly I'm wrong but I cannot find any info that backs that up. If that is the case then why did we reach out to MW schools first?

I agree. If the B1G and SEC end up pushing to 24 teams then the possible third conference from the leftovers may push to 24 as well. That means we just need to be one of the top 72 schools and we could end up in a very solid conference.

For example Nerdlinger came up with this idea.

Now that we know the B1G has other teams on the radar this could be a possible outcome. Stammers talked about it a little while back, but I had my doubts due to the info available at the time. I've become more optimistic with more recent info. This is why Memphis needs to keep pushing to improve and be in the best position possible instead of "giving up".

You had your doubts about something he posted a little while back ? Really ? Really ? That's not an answer. I'm fully sober. I'm not trying to be defeatist. I am asking real questions that have a monster impact on the future of our athletic program. Show me where ESPN picked these schools and guaranteed to not renegotiate the AAC contract.

moreover, not only would it cost Memphis 18 million to leave the AAC but we would be walking away from our cut of 54 million in exit fees left behind by Cincy, Houston, and UCF.

No way that happens, the AAC is a dead misfit conference going forward. The sooner we come to grips with that the better. We should just go ahead and change our name to UT Memphis so we fit in better with our new conference.

Amazing how many quitters and doomsdayers this place has.

I wasn't using Stammers as a source if I understand you correctly. You're taking my post completely out of context. I was pointing out how my view has changed since that thread based on the info given by reporters then and now. In fact he was talking about potential directions schools could go in that thread, not about something he heard.

Staying where we are is quitting. Its no reach to see that commuter schools with zero history in football don't exactly excite anyone. UNCC can spend all the money they want but their never going to matter.
