Why would B1G/sec get on board Aresco’s 8+8?

I’m sure they love a first round bye as in the 6+6.

But the next best thing would be a second round bye. A second round bye that you can sell tickets for to 70,000 fans.

If let’s say the SEC especially and in a good year the B1G have the top two seeds… there is a chance they could play one of those 7th or 8th seeds who could be somebody like the MWC or MAC champion in the second round.

That IMO is way better for them than say a rematch against a division opponent who missed the conference championship.

8+8 actually makes it more likely to end up with a final 4 with say Three SEC teams. Those guys would LOVE that. But this also does it in a legitimate way that gives the top non P-5 teams a shot, too.

7+9 would not be a bad compromise either.

There is no way in hell the big boys give up more than 1 slot to any G5 team or conference. Too much money to be had.
