Could a 2 x 28 or a 2 x 30 Setup Be Sufficient?
Would it be easier or more profitable to move to just 2 conferences with no tweener and let each school moving up to give one year current conference salary into a pool for any conference mates not making the move.

For instance in the 2 x 30 model 13 ACC schools would pay ~ 35 million to fund which would be split by BC and Wake.

The PAC, ACC, and B12 would vote to dissolve or simply not sign a new GOR.

2 x 28

B1G:

Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse

Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin

Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska

Arizona, California, California Los Angeles, Oregon, Southern Cal, Stanford, Washington

SEC:

Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, South Carolina

Alabama, Auburn, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech

2 x 30

B1G:

Maryland, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse

Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue

Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin

Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska

Arizona, Arizona State, California Los Angeles, Colorado, Southern Cal

California, Oregon, Stanford, Utah, Washington

SEC:

Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia

Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, South Carolina

Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State

Arkansas, Baylor, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Texas A&M

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Christian, Texas Tech

Each set up has merit. I really like the groupings on the 2 x 28.

A cordial, "sorry, but the hosts don't have you on the guest list" to the following:

Pitt
Syracuse
Iowa State
Louisville (above, West Virginia? No sir — and please no more about precious LSU fans feeling unsafe at Mountaineer Field. Oh the irony...)
Oklahoma State
TCU

Gonna need Texas Tech-Baylor and Arizona-Arizona State to settle their fates in cage matches. Only the two winners advance

Only if it's on pay per view! I still like 48, but so many here want more. I could live with the 2 x 28. Pitt and Cuse actually help draw in New England. Iowa State supports its sports, and Louisville is a top 15 earner, which is what it's about.

Thought you were spot on with your 2x24 lists in another thread -- and I think you can get to two dozen (but maybe not any higher) without either the SEC or B1G reaching for new members.

I think a rebranded BigXII/ACC/Pac-# mash-up with some worthy call-ups from the AAC and MWC:

Here's 32 schools that could be split in half geographically and wouldn't be out of place competing on the same tier as the B1G and SEC.

Call it the National Conference

Air Force
Arizona
Arizona State
Army
Baylor
Boise State
Boston College
BYU
Cincinnati
Colorado
Colorado State
Connecticut
Houston
Iowa State
Kansas State
Louisville
Memphis
Navy
Oklahoma State
Oregon State
Pitt
San Diego State
SMU
Syracuse
TCU
Texas Tech
Tulane
UCF
USF
Utah
Wake Forest
Washington State

That'll work. With a 2 x 24 the third conference is essential.

A third conference provides a safety net for the Big XII, ACC and Pac-# left-behinds and any other schools making a legitimate "P-5" level financial investment in athletics and specifically revenue sports.

Glad you mentioned Pitt, Pete the Chop!! Pitt suffers from a similar problem that Georgia Tech has, IMO: just like UGa (Georgia) carries the vast majority of the state of Georgia, Penn State carries the vast majority of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Why take Pitt when Penn State gives you that and more?? However, as I got to really thinking about Pitt, this thought popped in my head: since the B1G wanting GT so bad to get into SEC territory, maybe the SEC should take a closer look at Pitt to get into B1G territory. This move could affect advertising rates in the state of Pennsylvania, but I'm not completely sure about that. What's your thoughts on Pitt, JR??

Our brand strength and name define who we are. We don't need any Northern team which isn't named Notre Dame or Ohio State and great as they are they aren't Southern, Southeastern, or Southwestern.

Fixed it for ya.

(and SEC still needs to find a way to send Mizzou to the B1G for a player to be named later)

Agree with JR: Teams outside the South do not belong in the SEC.

If the SEC plants its flag in North Carolina and Virginia, the only "culturally Southern" state without a flagship-type university presence will be West Frickin' Virginia.

So DawgNBama ...

WVU to the S-E-C? Thumbs up

Pitt to the S-E-C? Heaven's no!

You do know West Virginia separated from Virginia in part not to associate with the South and that while most West Virginian's were simply neutral on the war that numbers did fight and for the Union? The Hatfield and McCoy's feud was a spin off in the hills of those in Kentucky which fought for the South and those in West Virginia who fought for the North. The bad blood was there already but the war accentuated it.

Very much a Hatfield and McCoy's thing as you said between the wealthy planters and farmers in Virginia and the more hardscrabble types in the mountains and hollers in the northwestern portion of a yet-to-be divided state.

Having said that, WV — particularly from Charleston and everything south — is very much culturally a Southern state and IMO would fit just fine in the SEC.

I hope there's a spot open and Greg Sankey chooses to add the 'neers.
