Miami Herald - Neither SEC nor Big Ten is interested in Miami
This is an interesting article from last Friday that has apparently been overlooked.

Miami Hurricanes monitoring situation

Barry Jackson reports:

Quote:Three sources briefed by the UM administration said this week that neither the Southeastern Conference nor the Big 10 has offered membership to UM nor shown any serious interest in adding the Hurricanes.

There's other interesting tidbits in the article. This would obviously conflict with some other reports out there which should underscore something important for all of us:

Just because a reputable source or reporter says something, it doesn't make it true.

The trick is...what exactly is going on out there in the meeting rooms that we're not privy to? Maybe we're all doing a lot of guessing.

I read it last Friday and dismissed it. What else can the Miami administration or their agents in the AD's office say while under the GOR provisions? Nada! So, it doesn't mean Miami has not solicited or received inquiries. It just means they can't talk about it. So non-story. And that covers pretty much the whole realignment mess.

I agree, saying the B1G or SEC had either offered membership or shown serious interest in doing so would make it hard for the conferences to say "Miami came to us..." and could have legal ramifications. I strongly suspect Miami and other ACC schools know which destinations are available to them, and are smart enough to keep quiet about it unless and until the GoR is dealt with.

I'm not saying I believe the conclusion of the story, I'm saying it shows there are divergent narratives floating in the media.

People act like if ESPN or USA Today didn't write the story then it isn't legitimate information, but if respected outlets are contradicting each other then it shows there are likely fewer people in the know than would like to be.

All the pundits that say this will or won't happen...they're guessing.

A lot of people are just making things up throwing it against the wall and hope they get a by-line to make a few bucks.

Well Yeah! As the Mandalorian would say, "This is the way" and it predates "Win one for the Gipper!" and the flying wedge. Truth in sports writing only exists in accurate game statistics and the score.

I think the issues we are seeing is that Miami is having issues.

1.Pro team to compete against.
2.Unsing the Dolphin's pro stadium.
3. Lousy ratings.
4.The stadium for many stadiums were half full.
5.Fudging the books to make them look good.
6.cheating issues
7.They get caught up in scandals after scandals.
8.Their name brand and blue blood status have gone down to be a normal school like Syracuse.

Green would have a ton of fun with you if you tried to post that post on the ACC board. Do yourself a favor, DavidSt, and read all of the posts green made on the ACC board. You would learn a lot about Miami that apparently you don't know about. As for the above, ROFL!!!

This is like the fortune tellers of old.

Say enough things, and something will turn out correct, and then you can take credit for your great reporting and/or prognosticating...

If representatives of a university are doing their jobs properly they understand that a major part of their job is discretion. If that requires obfuscation, misinformation or downright lying to the media about their athletic programs, so be it. Some fans hold the mistaken view that they have a right to know everything that is discussed behind closed doors at their favorite school. News flash. You don't.
