Like it, defend it or not, playing Middle does nothing for us. Lose & it's a very bad loss.

RE: Tigers-Middle Tennessee
The problem is not Middle Tenn State. The problem is who else we play. To have an attractive schedule we need to play 2 power 5 teams each year, not one or none. Houston, UCF, etc. do it. There is no reason that Memphis can not find a way to do it.

One more power 5 team a year would make a great difference in the schedule for our fans and our national perception. Our rivals are doing it. We need to do so also.

The scheduling model for Out of Conference should be 2 power five teams and 2 group of five teams or 2P5 teams and 1 group of five team and 1 FCS team.

For Comparison Out of Conference Schedule 2022:

Cincinatti
Arkansas
Kennesaw State
Miami University (in Cincinnati)
Indiana

ECU
NCState
Campbell
Old Dominion
BYU

Houston
UTSA
Texas Tech
Kansas
Rice

SMU
North Texas
Lamar
Maryland
TCU

Temple
Duke
Lafayette
Rutgers
UMass

UCF
Louisville
Florida Atlantic
Georgia Tech
South Carolina State

USF
BYU
Howard
Florida
Louisville

I agree with this and nice post with the other AAC team's non-conference schedules. Interesting to see that so many of them are scheduling 2 P5 opponents and we are not. We need to put IKE in charge of scheduling so we can DITCH THE CUPCAKES.

RE: Tigers-Middle Tennessee
Frankly, we need to schedule better OOC at home for the revenue even if the level of play is no better - no one can say we don't need revenue. That's the reason I support the ASU game versus these other mid-major & FCS games, ASU brings some fans. And honestly, I think our athletic admin is demonstrating little faith in the team. They seem very afraid of scheduling more than one potential loss OOC. The P-5 trend is away from scheduling high payment FCS buy games by the P5 as their conferences get bigger (probably '28 & beyond). And our admin needs to work harder at scheduling OOC to draw butts in the seats. Our "peers" have demonstrated consistently they can do it.

Memphis and Middle Tennessee State have played each other 26 times dating back to 1925. MTSU is 16-10 in those contests.

You guys gave some weird cupcakes in West TN....

Doesn't need sugar-coating.
SEC teams won't come to Memphis.
We need regional OOC games.
Gives the coaches a "free" recruiting trip.
Gives the university exposure to middle TN prospective athletes and students
Never mind the 60 year olds with bias against Memphis - Nashville is booming largely on millennials who may not have that bias.
And like it or not, it's a good road trip.

Didn’t we play Mississippi State here last year? Aren’t Missouri & Arkansas also scheduled to play in Memphis over the next few years?

We do not need to focus on regional SEC like in the past, but we do need 2 quality non-conference games per year.

Playing 1 Sun Belt/CUSA team is ok, but I fall back on my father’s words of wisdom when it comes to scheduling… dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

You just named the extent of the SEC that will play us - and there are many year gaps where they won't.
You want home games AND you want two P5 games.
Our best season in modern history was 2019 - Cotton Bowl.
We had 1 P5 game and 3 "cupcakes" OOC.
Tell me again why we "need" 2 P5's every year?

Well, since you want to get indignant....Ohio St AND Notre Dame said they'd play Home and Homes with us. RC Johnson in his infinite baffonery, told them we wanted a 2 for 1 series with Memphis getting the two home games...you can figure out the rest

Only non P5 team Ohio State might home and home is Cincy and the game in Cincy would probably be required to be in the Bengals stadium.

Im puzzled as to why most schools in our league can go out of conference and schedule better than we can. No one wants to play us, but they will play Houston, ECU, Tulane or Cincinnati? It seems to me, our schedule is set up exactly like the athletic department wants it, because it has consistently followed the same formula.

The last I checked, the teams that have traditionally qualified as quality wins in the AAC are gone after this season. Winning the AAC/CUSA is not going to have the same panache as it did in 2019. Too, we’re seeing attendance & fan interest wane & it will only continue as UCF, UC & Houston are replaced with UTSA, UAB, Rice, Charlotte & FAU.

Seems that scheduling OOC is based upon relationships to some extent. Some have claims for years that UTK wouldn't play us but Tubby & Barnes had a good relationship resulting in a 3 game deal (& now we can't seem to get the postponed game rescheduled). Bowen had west coast relationships & got UCLA scheduled in FB. Because of Norvell's relationship we got FSU scheduled. I would think our AD, at least, should have some B12 relationships & maybe some still at UF/SEC but he's done little in the area of scheduling.

Here is what our CURRENT roster looks like, with driving distances from Murfreesboro, and the number of players from that location.

30 Brentwood (2)
34 Nashville (4)
40 Spring Hill
50 Columbia
100 Chattanooga (2)
120 Cleveland
150 Paris
167 Milan (2)
160 Jackson
180 Knoxville

It was explained to you very clearly that it is a GREAT game for our current roster, recruits, and their families and friends.

So, is it still your opinion (based on the usual nothing) that playing a game within a 3 hour drive for the families and friends of 16 players, and a 2 hour drive or less for 11 players on our current roster, does nothing for us? 04-drinky

You didn't ask me but --yes--ZERO to gain with a win --and a HORRIBLE loss when/if we lose
