I really like what he says at about the 35:40 mark about how this team is being overlooked and underrated by everyone and he is taking that personally. I also love that he has the Houston game circled on his calendar.

Hope SH has a great year & we win big - so big others take notice. That said, that makes SH a real target to be a bigtime transfer in this NIL environment.

I think it would take a lot for him to leave, particularly when he is QB1 on a successful team with a supportive coaching staff that he gets along really well with and can help him get to the next level. There is a lot of uncertainty in transferring to a new program - what if the style of offense is not a good fit, what if some of the players don't like him, what if some of the coaching staff doesn't see eye to eye with him. That's a whole lot of uncertainty to take on when he could just stay right here in a program that works really well for him and lead a winning team to championships and NY6 bowls and get plenty of NFL attention.

There's actually a ton of talent on this team at the skill positions. We are going to see some new stars this year and I'm not sure who they're going to be yet because there are a lot of very talented guys who have the potential to break out this year (keep an eye on Joseph Scates). This team is going to win some games that it has every business winning because of a lot of dudes.

Lot of what ifs in college FB these days. Successful OU coach at very successful OU program leaves for USC & takes his QB with him. And several top rated QBs out of HS leave UGA, may other examples - all with difference circumstances, but lots of transfers & lots of uncertainty in this NIL environment. Can't ever say with certainty but hope SH leaves Memphis after 4-5 yrs (whatever you get these days) with all of the QB records & a very successful program.

One trend in the new college football transfer portal sticks out: Power Five schools are not raiding the Group of Five or FCS for prospects, as some analysts had feared.

Only two quarterbacks from the Group of Five or FCS have transferred up into the Power Five: Cameron Ward (Incarnate Word to Washington State) and Grant Wells (Marshall to Virginia Tech).
Ward transferred because his head coach at UIW, Eric Morris, is Washington State's new offensive coordinator.
Could not find why Wells transferred.

Ike’s a funny dude, but he’s not all wrong. Recruiting has changed in a big way. I’m more knowledgeable on basketball, but I’m sure this applies to all sports.

Most D-1 basketball coaches aren’t looking at freshmen, unless they are incredibly elite. Kids that were formerly D-1 material are being pushed die down to D2, D3, NAIA or JUCO. Coaches are looking at winning now rather than building programs. The NCAA basketball transfer portal has around 2,000 names. Coaches are going older, and looking at experienced players rather than 4 year guys. Case in point: no Memphis freshman on last years team will play with us this year. They went pro or transferred.

Smaller schools (or those in the low tier conferences) will be training programs for the major conference schools. I’ve heard they will be allowing unlimited transfers, so those offering a better deal (playing time, chance at a national championship, NIL $$$, media attention, etc) will be filled with top transfers.

Think about it, would you rather have a 27 year old (Williams) or a 18 year old (not top 50 player)? The kids getting pushed down to D2, NAIA, etc, will move up to many of these lower D-1 programs.

It’s happening now. I can tell you many kids that would have signed D1 aren’t even getting looked at now. The lower levels are getting better players than ever. Many will get in a year or two, and transfer into D1 programs.

Transfer rules, NIL, and extra Covid year are having a big effect on recruitment/retention of players…. All is not lost, just get used to seeing new faces every year.

Memphis should have a winning season. It's scheduled more than a few teams who did not do well last year, there are more bad teams than good teams.
If we go 6-6 or worse, it would be time to look for someone else as coach.

You are more forgiving than me. IMO hope the admin is thinking 8+ wins for RS to keep his job. We can't afford mediocrity on the field if want to maintain even a sliver of hope to move up.

Nothing magic about whether a QB is G5 or not. What matters is if he is good & someone offers more for his skills.

2 P5 Texas schools offered 6 figures for him this past off season. Reality if he has a good season at Memphis, this maybe his last. Memphis football does not have the money to keep him. Memphis football does not have NIL money to even come close to keep a lineman much less a QB which are highly sought after.

From his Instagram he seems to be in love with a Memphis cheerleader. Who knows what might happen in the future. No sense in worrying about things you can't control. I hope every Memphis Tiger fan is participating in the wonderful 901 Fund to help support the Memphis Tiger athletes.
