I posted this at SEC EXPANSION along with a couple other articles. One of those articles - Big Ten players wanting a share of the wealth which is predictable given the trajectory of college athletics.

Sorry I didn't see it. There is little affiliation between athletics and academics in this model. At what point does athletics tarnish the image of the host university?

For an old guy like me when athletes had to take and pass the same course requirements as that of the regular students - with no carved out majors for them, I see that academics were tossed years ago. However, the younger folks likely see the changed academic environment for athletes as reform. But, this latest proposed reforms — I am unable to relate at all. The only next step in this trajectory would be no course requirements or class attendance for those electing this route - just hired public relations agents for the university to go along with their athletic performances if they do not desire a college degree or drop out of their degree program along the way.

I completely agree. If you are going to transfer so much you will never graduate, why bother to even give the impression that you are a student?

RE: Transfer Portal Changes
It's ironic that the exact institution in place to protect college athletics is the one ruining it. They're driving the bus that is dropping the student from student-athlete. Why do we even need them?? While the Big 10 and SEC are reorganizing, there should be a reorganization of everyone else, OUTSIDE the NCAA. That would be the real coup.

RE: Transfer Portal Changes
The NCAA has voted to decrease the number of days in which a player is allowed to enter the portal. It shall be only 45 days, and the timing of those days will vary by sport. There is more detailed info out there, but I'll leave it at this.
I think the point is to increase, to some extent, the stability and predictability of the process. But that's my take only.

RE: Transfer Portal Changes
I didn't know the NCAA had any authority over FBS football anyway.
I think you should be able to transfer once with no penalty but a reasonably small portal window makes sense. You should not be able to transfer a second time without penalty unless either you have graduated or there is a coaching change. Just my opinion.
