What made you go to Memphis State / University of Memphis?
I'm just curious of those that graduated a Tiger, what made you attend MSU/UofM?

Transparency: I attended one Summer semester at Memphis St. and graduated from Miss St.

Grew up by campus going to football and basketball games. When the opportunity to play football there came up, it was a perfect opportunity. No regrets.

I voted “Other”: I went to elementary school at the Campus School while both parents taught at the university for 30+ years. I never thought about going anywhere else.

Family couldn't afford for me to go away to school .... Lived at home for the first year; worked then lived just off campus .... Tuition and Books were still less than $700 per semester ...

I bet you were in my Mom's class. She taught at Campus School for 31 years.

I grew up a Tigers fan. Lived 2 hours away, but still made it to fb and bb games a few times a year. Watched WKNO replays of bb games. Then I got a scholarship offer early my senior HS year, and shutdown my search process. A scholly at MSU was all I wanted.

I attended from 1965-1971. What is her name? If I didn’t have her, perhaps my brother did, who was 7 years behind me.

I had great teachers, but I don’t recall her name. I had: 1) Pendergast, 2) Lowe, 3) Anderson, 4) Suggs, 5) Nowlin, and 6) Smith. I included their names in case you might have known them as friends of your mother.

(Ironic that my last name is Thompson. Close, but no cigar.)

I could live at home and work my 30-35 hour/week job while attending from Fall '74 through Fall '79. Yes, I was a commuter student - so shoot me. But it didn't stop me from going to football and basketball games when I could....

RE: What made you go to Memphis State / University of Memphis?
My Dad said: "If you want to go to college, you're going to need to pay for it yourself". CBU offered me half off tuition, but the UofM gave me a full ride. I grew up a Tiger fan going to a smattering of games, but didn't become die-hard until my freshman year.

I watched Sylvester Gray play in the state basketball tournament. I wanted to watch him play in person for the next 3-4 years. I think it ended up being 4 games.

RE: What made you go to Memphis State / University of Memphis?
Went to high school in Mississippi. Saw OM or State as my high school 2.0. Had zero interest in being in a frat. Had been on campus before and to games and liked the more urban atmosphere. Seemed way less insular than a small college town experience. I have zero regrets. To this day going to family or social functions and can't have a conversation wo OM or State popping up is so freaking tiresome. Its like you know I like my cigar but I take it out my mouth every now and again. The irony of fans from there calling Memphis "tiger high" is very amusing.

I was born and raised in Memphis, and my parents were big Tiger fans, football and basketball. Had season BB tix most of their adult lives. I started attending games in 1952, when I was 5.

I went to college elsewhere from 1965-68, but got a low draft number, quit school and entered the Navy for 4 years.

Upon arrival home in Dec 1972, now married with a son, I enrolled at Memphis State, changed majors, and graduated in 1975.

I grew up in Shelby County and started attending football games in 1969 as a young lad.

Was a football and basketball fan from that point forward - got to 'stay up late' and watch the Tigers play UCLA for the national bb title - remember that clearly.

Jack Eaton was awesome. 'Lucky' Lloyd Patterson was my favorite player back in the day.

Never wanted to go anywhere else for college. Graduated from MEMPHIS STATE UNIVERSITY in the mid 80's.

Had football and basketball season tickets until I moved away about a decade ago.

Caught Dr. Poole at the end of his career for math. He used to talk about playing chess with Dave Casinelli...and how much harder the tests he gave in the 60's were as opposed to the 80s, lol

Grew up a Tiger fan, attending football and basketball games(and fan days and madness) as far back as I can remember, never had a doubt where I wanted to go to college.

First in my immediate family to graduate from college even though my sister was the *smart* one.
