Still in the AAC with pretty much the same crowd? A different crowd? Another conference? A combined Mountain West AAC? A vastly watered down version of the ACC? Only God knows so stop asking me stupid questions during a slow period in sports?

In 10 years head coach Brady White and offensive coordinator Seth Henigan and defensive coordinator JJ Russell are leading the Memphis Tiger football team to their first appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

RE: So where are we in 10 years
In 10 years we are in a conference with our like peers:

Cincy
Houston
SMU
UCF
USF

& likely

Louisville
Boston College
Pitt
Syracuse
Temple
& UConn (if they want to be part of an all sports League)

& whatever 4 of the other ACC teams that don’t get promoted.

RE: So where are we in 10 years
We'll be doing the same things we have been doing for the last 60 yrs & expecting different results - complaining about why we are continually left behind while other who weren't even our peers passed us by, by having a real vision of those in charge, finding ways to actually invest directly in the university (UL, UCF, Cinn, etc) which grows the supporting alum base.

I think too we with peers...Cincy, UCF, Houston etc. That could be in B12 or ACC. But I think we move up.

But I don't necessarily think it means you could be playing with big boys. I think you could see a 32 team, 48 team, etc. break off for NFL type playoff system.

It's a mess.

Yep. FedEx, GMC, Yum, Coca-Cola, Kroger, Delta, WalMart, Proctor & Gamble combine forces to run the conference utilizing NIL to their benefit. Kids are back working for millionaires.

Memphis is fielding a competitive football team under HC Brady White. and basking in the glow from our 2 Bball National Championships under Head Coach Penny Hardaway and coach in waiting, ALo.

That’s pretty much where I’m at.

Man - you are always one bright ray of sunshine.

I agree, like some others, that we’ll be back with Cincy, Houston, etc. with other schools like Louisville, Syracuse, and the like. A better position than today.

The real question is, will college football survive in a form that we even want to be a part of any more? That is a dark thought, but legit considering the current state of affairs and the big schools preying on the smaller. The whole freaking thing could collapse.

RE: So where are we in 10 years
Because I will always love Memphis basketball even more than football, I’ll be okay if we end up with a few other potential losers in the new world order: castaways like Kansas, Duke. I’m gonna stay positive and hope we eventually join up with a few basketball powers. Or rejoin some, like Cincinnati and/or Louisville.

Not trying to be a smartass, but what’s really going on? I get it that we don’t have a ton of rich alumni (afaik), but is there something else you’re alluding to?

College sports will be reduced to intramural athletics. Football and basketball entities will be composed of club teams for college aged students. Most will forgoe the college experience and become paid professionals. Players will align with clubs and will be recruited, based on highest bidder/best contract. Memphis will have a club team, hopefully owned by whomever buys FedEx. Maybe Ford or another corporate entity will invest in the area.

In 10 years I’ll still be at the Liberty Bowl on saturdays to watch the boys in blue and grey.

Well, that has certainly been the pattern. We keep making safe but underwhelming upgrades & we keep getting bypassed by our more aggressive competitors.

Still the side chick of some major conference. They lead us on just enough to keep us around.

Then when it’s time to pony up, we get excuses and left out in the cold.

The new airport terminal is nice, though.
