Realignment Scenario: SEC-32 - restoring rivalries.
Realignment Scenario: SEC-32

I've been talking about various versions of this over the past few weeks (Inspired by some things that JRsec and others have said.)

This scenario is more about addressing fans' wants: long time rivalries and having schools relatively close geographically. (Looking at a map definitely had some weight in this.)

So for this scenario to happen, we need to take a few things for granted.

1.) That the SEC wants to add so many schools, taking much of the ACC "in-house".
2.) That the B10 (or anyone else) isn't able to "out-bid" (or steal) from the SEC. And that the B10 and SEC aren't poached by anyone else.
3.) That the espn (or whomever) is willing to pay a conference this size
3a.) That the SEC conference as-a-whole receives X amount, but the top 12 schools get a larger amount. This "two-tier" structure (or something like it) is likely the only way this happens. because, as much as we might want to ignore money and business decisions, it's obviously a factor.

So the SEC raids the ACC and the B12.

SEC - 32
SEC Southwest: Texas, TTU, TCU, Baylor, OU, OSU, Kansas, Missouri

SEC Central: Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, Alabama, TN, Vanderbilt, UK, Louisville

SEC Gulf: FSU, Miami, UF, UGA, GT, LSU, TAMU, Arkansas

SEC Atlantic: UNC, NC State, Duke, WF, VT, UVA, Clemson, USC-e

Welcome to the restoration of rivalries : )

Southwest is essentially the B12 division. Noting that TAMU is grouped with rivals AR and LSU (and because they likely would not like to share divisions with TX).

The remains of the ACC go to the B12 (doesn't matter who invites who): ND goes back to independent in FB - putting non-fb sports in B12/ACC. Pitsburgh, Syracuse, and BC, get invites. So do USF, Memphis, Tulsa, and Temple. Army, Navy, Air Force, and UConn, get invites, but for football-only; Wichita (and ND) for non-FB.

BYU and Houston, seeing the makeup (and distances) of the new B12/ACC, join the MWC. MWC also adds SMU, to give Houston a travelling partner. Gonzaga is invited for non-football.

The Big10, seeing the writing on the wall, absorbs 8 from the PAC, going to 24. OSU and WSU join the MWC.

AAC backfills as they can.

The PAC no longer exists.

new B12/ACC - 12+(4+2)
Kansas State, Iowa State
BC, Syracuse, Temple, Pittsburgh, WV, Cincinnati
Memphis, Tulsa
UCF, USF
FB-only: UConn, Army, Navy, Air Force
Non-FB: ND, Wichita

new MWC - 15+(1+1)
Colorado state, Wyoming, NM, Houston, SMU
Boise state, OSU, WSU, Utah state, BYU
Nevada, San Jose state, Fresno state, UNLV, SDSU
FB-only: Hawaii
Non-FB: Gonzaga

I don't think it would be called the G5 (or 6) anymore. The strengths of the non P2 conferences are pretty different.

It’s like Bizaroworld reading some of these ideas.

Why would any of those schools leftover want UConn football only?

I mean, I guess it's a fun plot if you're a Hollywood director scripting a realignment movie, but this is galaxies removed from reality.

I did that because it's not certain if UConn would want to leave the big east for that conference. If so, just replace Tulsa with UConn for all sports.

Everything listed is "plausible".

Though I'll agree that circumstances and timing could play into it.

The main thing is the SEC would need to "want" to. They could do this raid right now (waiting til 2025 for the big12 schools of course - it's easier to wait for 2025 and the ACC dissolves, than to wait for 2036 and the B12 dissolves).

I could also see an adjusted pay increase for the top producing Basketball schools during Basketball season. Depends on what ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN2, ESPN+ Want to showcase the winter sports package.

Yes, the payouts may get a bit complicated, but businesses do that sort of things all the time.

Southwest and Atlantic are fine but other two are mess. Georgia isn't rivals with LSU and A&M. Louisville isn't rivals with anyone other than UK.

I didn't bother after that.

Georgia is rival with Florida, who is rival with LSU who is a rival with tamu, who is a rival with AR.

But besides that, the divisions are also by geography. So for example, the states of alabama, mississippi, tennessee, and kentucky are together in a division.
