Washington, Stanford, and Oregon are all bring more to the table than anyone left in the Big 12.

Think you might be forgetting that the current B-12 schools have a very big payday coming when UT/OU exit & the B-12 GOR is substantial enough to keep UT/OU in the B-12 2 yrs longer than they wanted, so I don't see any B-12 schools heading to the PAC. Those two factors plus the little $$ difference between the PAC & B-12 will keep any B-12 schools from leaving, IMO.

That's fair and if they would have to forfeit the payout from OU/UT exit fees then that might very well keep them from moving to a somewhat better conference. My main point is that no one in the Pac-12 has any motivation or interest in taking a step down to join the Big 12.

Just wondering: The stock market is driven by projections of FUTURE earnings. Do conferences ever offer invitations based on (future) potential, or it always based on present and past?

I’m sure a lot of things factor in. A main one might be crime

Sports Illustrated recently ranked all P5 schools based on the value they bring to an athletic conference. They chose 5 factors (none of which were "crime"): Football Performance, Football Attendance, Football Viewership, Academics, and All Sports - which is performance in sports such as basketball and women's volleyball. They weight all of these factors equally though they confess that "all sports" "is the most disposable of the metrics here."

I think this a pretty decent ranking of the kinds of things that athletic conferences look at when evaluating schools, although I would throw out "All Sports" because conferences do not care about basketball or women's volleyball.

This is great news. It reduces the likelihood for the worst case scenario where the 3 tier2's consolidate to 2 conferences and we get left behind. Now we will see more poaching over the next 12 months, and it will open doors for us.

"We will leave no stone unturned to drive value for the conference," Yormark said at media day. He added: "There is no higher priority than to best position the Big 12 for its upcoming multimedia rights negotiations. Everything we do must create momentum for those negotiations."

Just pick up the phone ...

Would Memphis add value if they didn’t think the rest of the PAC 12 could do that?

Its all about the TV $$$$ per team. If adding a school doesn't at least keep everyone at par then that school doesn't get added.

There is probably some minimum number of schools that need to be in a league in order to have enough 'content' - probably 10 to 12 schools.

There also might be 'package deals' that involve two schools sticking together for one reason or another.

So, unless a conference gets raided to below 10-12 members or the TV dollars make it a winner - the major conferences don't look interested in adding just to add.

I don't see this as favorable for Memphis at the moment.

After this year the AAC will be a drag on Memphis and thinking that Memphis is going to dominate the weaker AAC isn't automatic at all.

The teams that got left behind in CUSA when Memphis moved on did not fare well at all with UAB being the lone exception and how good were they really? Not too great.

I don't agree with this. I think that two big conferences are eventually going to expand even more once the ACC is done with their pesky GOR. If you have two conferences totally at least 40 members and getting 10 or 12 out of the 16 spots, you can't have a 12 team ACC or 10 team Big 12 getting 2 spots. For those two conferences to get 2 each into the playoff, I would think that they would have to be at 16 members at the very least.

Good points. I hope that is the way it works out.

I'm not sure with USC/UCLA leaving that the B-12 is a step down. I don't think we will know until the next media contracts are negotiated & the B-12 value might be higher if it included 2 to 4 current PAC schools added. I understand there is a current perception that the PAC might be the better deal now but we don't know the hit both the B-12 & the PAC are going to take with their big hitters leaving. But what is apparent is that the B-12 has a strong preference to add current P-5 schools from the PAC & that the PAC has never publicly considered inviting the CA state schools (SDSU & Fresno St) or any MWC schools & there is every indication the PAC believes those schools do not meet their academic stds.

There is the Possibility that the PAC poaches BYU before that move is final. There seems to be some bad blood there and blood is thicker than water, but there is the possibility money is thicker than either. Losing BYU might open a spot for USF to the bigxii. I do have a question has the same study been done for the value of G5 schools.
