More from Sankey:

On expansion: Some schools have grant of rights "and we're not going to get in the middle of those."

more from al.com:

Is the SEC looking to expand beyond 16 teams? Sankey said they’re “attentive” to the situation at hand and they get inquiries but they are comfortable with 16 teams.

Comfortable, huh. Nice choice of an adjective :)

Pretty clear the commissioner won't have to backtrack even a smidgen if (sorry, when) the SEC expands again.

Or, to look at the quote in another manner:

"The ACC schools that are interested in joining the SEC — and, yes, we know there are several out there — need to settle their business with ESPN. Oh, did I mention that the SEC and ESPN have a very tight relationship and they are 100 percent in alignment with us in making this conference the very best it can be? Just wanted to make that clear to everyone in case I hadn't already."

That sounds like espn has a plan on the table and the ACC is talking to them

is there Anything Sankey could have said that would have changed your mind?

If ESPN holds the ACC and PAC 12 together? Get ready to see the Big 12 get picked apart to counter FOX.

So you think ESPN wants to pay any ACC team SEC payouts before 2036?

lol - No, I read that from the second quote,

Paraphrasing: The ACC schools need to resolve things with espn, and wink wink nudge nudge, did I mention espn wants SEC to be the best it can be?

Sounds to me like talks of some sort are going on.

I'd like to lay a wager against zero high value ACC teams riding it out all the way through the bitter end of the contract in 2036 A.D.

As an SEC quasi-fan, this language from the SEC scares me a bit. The last two Power commissioners who stood at a lectern and said they were comfortable with their membership soon got decapitated.

I hope this isn't quoted three weeks from now - after Florida and Georgia have announced they are joining the B1G.

SEC needs to be active and aggressive. Be wiling to review applications from anywhere. Make it clear within the bounds of the law it is open to any opportunities.

Plenty of posters here whose opinions — even after the SEC's and B1G's most recent additions — indicate they'd take you up on that bet.

FL & UGA are not joining the B1G. Wtf.

Maybe he is “comfortable” bc he really is, and should be, comfortable.

The SEC is impenetrable, just like the B1G. This FL/GA talk is ridiculous. Much like the “OSU/PSU are joining the SEC” last year.
