Exclamation Would you say the B12 has a particular style of football? If yes, what is it?
Just curious what our future conference mates think? Just wondering to see how well the new guys (particularly UCF) would fare based on the responses.

Not anymore. I think it used to be up-tempo offenses and hyper-aggressive attacking defenses that were playing for sacks and turnovers.

Matt Campbell and Matt Rhule changed that. It's become a much more conventional, defensive brand of football over the past five or six years. Gundy's switch at OSU last year represented the official end of the basketball on grass era in the Big 12.

@bear2be is correct. When I used to think of Big 12 football, it was all about the offense. Now it does seem that the offenses are coming back to Earth and defenses are starting to get better.

It used to look like arena football in the sense that it was all offense with touchdowns every few seconds and scores in the 50’s and 60’s. But I think that’s changed in recent years.

Anybody that thinks the Big 12 is run and gun and points galore hasn't watched it the last few years

Big12 *might*, be switching back. Lebby at OU (if he doesn't get a HC job), will run the ball, and be very physical. Dykes at TCU will be offense. Harrell at WVU will be the spread.

Now, we get in Kittley at Tech. He's young, and came up under Kingsbury. McGuire will want to play "complimentary football".

This year....may be more run and gun style, and see where everything goes for Tech....and see who wins the QB job, tbh.
BU wants to open up the passing attack some more this year...maybe a bit, by naming Shapen the starter

Right now...I wouldnt say there is a "style"...

There's been a lot of focus on defense the last few years for sure, but the B12 has also had just a ton of great RB talent the last few years as well. Hall at ISU, Hubbard at OSU, Evans at TCU (until he transferred), Bijan at UT and Deuce Vaughn at KSU.

OC's have adjusted their approach to get the ball in the hands of these guys so we've seen a transition to more balanced offenses with more of a focus on the run game.

I'm curious to see where we are in a few years once the new schools are fully integrated to the league. Should be interesting to see how we evolve. 03-thumbsup

I definitely thought we are gonna have to be more physical, thanks for all the responses. Depth has been a concern for a while but we've been building so that's not a problem IMO for the future.

UCF, UH, cincy, BYU will have depth issues. Baylor will have a Top 5 DL returning.

NONE of the new members should be comfortable with the depth you have.

Cincy fans just seem arrogant, UCF fans just happy to be "there". Houston fans, too.

So...With Tech, you're going to have Kittley calling plays. It's going to be very fast, and your defense will have to be able to run guys out there. Is the depth there?

And, Baylor/OSU will be physical, upfront. So, if UCF has to play tech/BU/osu....your team is going to get beaten to death.

Houston, too. Cincy will have their issues, also.

All 4 of you will...

We’re going to have a lot more depth heading into the B12. Gus has been recruiting “with his hair on fire” as he likes to say. Our DL in particular is going to be very deep and talented with the national recruits we’re pulling. OL is the only area im a bit concerned with depth for the future.

You're aware that Cincy just had the 3rd most players drafted (9) last year behind only Georgia (15) and LSU (10). I don't think Tech fans are in a position to be schooling them on depth. lmao
