How so? They both made it to what essentially amounts to 2 CFP games and each lost both. They both won 2 conf titles. Kelly was 34-6. CLF is 29-9. Seems about the same to me.

Kelly never beat a team of the stature of Notre Dame.

RE: Fickell statue fund
I'd say the statue is a bit premature. Let him get 10 years in and navigate through the tougher competition in the Big XII. Fick is 48-15 [.762] after five seasons and if he can maintain that trajectory then the statue is justified. Rick Minter still has more wins [53] in his career at UC so that is another step for Fick to surpass - he will [should] do that in Year Six.

Sorry, looked at the wrong stat. You are correct. 29-9 is his in conference record. BK win % was .900. CLF win % .762

I'm a huge Bk defender but Bk walked into a program returning nearly everyone off a 7-5 season where 4 of the 5 loses were to top 10 teams on the road and they had a home win over a top 10 team.

Fickell inherited a 4 win team that had been doing progressive worse each season and didn't have the big east to sell. Comparing their winning percentages tells you nothing.

Don't you normally build it after their tenure?

I think you have to build the Huggins statue first.

RE: Fickell statue fund
I say start the conversation now and minimize the nay sayers. Perhaps it is premature - so what?! He has made incredible contributions to move us from a periodic T25 team to a T25 program. With the exception of CTT, we have had a sustained run of impactful head coaches - Minter, Dantonio, Kelley, Jones and now Fickell.

There are 3 reasons I want build the statue now -
1) His success on the field - meeting and exceeding expectations last year - road win and Notre Dame; making the CFP (in contrast to Kelley - Kelley had the equivalent of two NY6 games; CLF has one CFP and one NY6. To get a sense of how exclusive the CFP are - only 13 different teams have made the playoffs in 8 seasons)
2) The quality of players - athletic - 9 NFL draft picks; and character
3) He has stayed, and by all appearances is planning to be here and to build a program. When he walked away from MSU; and didn't pursue ND by back channels last year - he deserves everything we can do to show our appreciation.

While I am not one for a cult of personality - it would be nice for once to see us really get behind a coach who deserves it! Let's show coach, the program and players some respect and love!

I think the Jucker and Smith statutes go up before Huggs.

Agreed. I think Fickell knows he's loved here and is personally invested in the Cincinnati Bearcats more than probably any other football coach in our history. But building statues and renaming streets or buildings is a risky business especially if future events unfolds differently than the past.

I was all in when the city named "Pete Rose Way". In retrospect, there was a lot we didn't know at that time, despite his considerable accomplishments on the diamond.

If Fickell continues to stay and take the program higher and higher, a statue erected today might in the end be too small.
