RE: Mississippi St. Football Preview
anyone who "voted" for MSU in this poll should really rethink your life..

What kind of dumbazz feels the need to be "realistic" on a message board poll like this? what are you afraid of? being message board shamed if we happen to lose?

Hoping ‘21 OT Dobbs (Transfer from Mich St has grown up and figured it out).

*I personally think ‘21 OT Pounders and OT White will be monsters for us in ‘23. They get some reps this year but need 1 more year in weight room.

On paper, we could be much better at OL this season. I’m hoping the new OL asst coach recently hired makes the big time impact we are expecting.

Agreed - I think we’ll see the fruits of these past few recruiting years pay off with the guys in the trenches. Building depth on both lines has been a real emphasis. I look for our run game to really improve.

Unfortunately I think their line is the strength of their D--is it not ?

make them respect the passing game. Lure the DBs away from the box expecting a pass...and then it's even steven. Strength on strength.
If we go fast as we did under Norvell, the defense would wear down.

Who were the o-line first team starters in the spring game?

RE: Mississippi St. Football Preview
Not really worried about the result of the game, but more worried about how they are going to play. Just curious to see how they start. If they want to win this game, they're going to have to score 10 in the first quarter, and in the 20's in the first half. If they score 35, they have a shot to win. But I'm more worried about the offensive line in this game due to communication from crowd noise.

However, this team will need to start better in games to be a better team. We weren't a good first quarter team last season.

RE: Mississippi St. Football Preview
I rewatched this interview with our new OC and I really like what he said about being an aggressive play-caller. Reminds me of Mike Norvell.

“I personally am an aggressive person. I like to be aggressive. I like to take shots down field. I like to stretch the field vertically and I like to stretch the field horizontally.”

Starts at the 18:20 mark.

Dale RG
Dobbs RT

They adjusted due to some banged up guys but this was the five I saw most. JC transfers, Alford, Henry, Newsom and Punders were 2’s but most got some 1 reps.

Hadn’t heard that but could see Pounders taking that side if he developed fast enough. If not, expect Dale back at RT and possibly Henry getting RG.

Jonah Gambill was asked who is he most excited to see develop this year and his answer was "Makylan Pounders." He said Pounders is "rolling with the ones" on o-line right now and "he'll get a lot of attention this year" because "he's 6'6", filled out, and just an absolute monster."

I hope we play well and stay healthy. It's non-conference game. The AAC games just mean more.

I'm going to go watch some Marshall gametape from last season to see an example of his mentality of being aggressive then.

Stretch the field. I'm not a big fan of the stretch the field thing anymore. I think the time as passed where that as a way of thought is going to win consistently. It is too common.

You don't need a huge hole for an athlete to advance the ball. I'm more of an attack the weak spot guy. Work the weak spot until they stop it. Make them change to compensate for their weak spots, and then hit the space they must leave open because of the adjustments. To me that's football at an entirely different level.

I like that philosophy too. But you gotta stretch the field to keep the DBs and safeties from crowding the line of scrimmage. Keep them honest and it’s easier run the ball.

Sounds to me like the new OC likes to throw the DEEP BALL. If the new DC likes to BLITZ then Ike should have a happy season.

Every coach sounds great in a canned interview. These became a thing when Porter was coach.

All the position coaches did a similar interview during the summer and this place went nuts over them....
