Vegas Insider says the line opened @ 8----like PENNYWISE stated in an earlier thread it went to 16. In some places it's 17----crazy how ALL THE EARLY $$$$$ went on state to double the line

Covers now says the line opened at 16.5 --I think this is probably right

I agree with you - -I have a bad feeling---I think they cover by the 1/2

One of my betting theories/systems --if a line looks obvious/like a lock/too good --go the other way

RE: Mississippi St. Football Preview
I think Silverman will come out wide open & get an early lead, but the question is will he coach the entire game with that mentality or will his nuts withdraw into his abdomen as they often did last year. The guy loves to get a lead then start running the ball relentlessly into a brick wall of defenders. Hopefully, he’ll be a little less predictable this year.

Kevin Johns was the play-caller for the last 2 seasons. This year we have a new play-caller.

This gives me much reason for hope. Passing on first down and running in the spread offense is what made Novel seem like an offensive genius. Why Johns went away from that is puzzling.

Why Silverfield went away from it is the real puzzle . ...everything begins and ends with the head coach

Silverfield has coached inside the offense under Norvell, he should know it as well as Brady...
I'm hoping we get-go to with that gambling roll-the-dice approach that Norvell went with.
It did not always work of course...but it showed me that Norvell was passionate about winning.

Hoping ‘21 OT Dobbs (Transfer from Mich St has grown up and figured it out).

*I personally think ‘21 OT Pounders and OT White will be monsters for us in ‘23. They get some reps this year but need 1 more year in weight room.

On paper, we could be much better at OL this season. I’m hoping the new OL asst coach recently hired makes the big time impact we are expecting.

Agreed - I think we’ll see the fruits of these past few recruiting years pay off with the guys in the trenches. Building depth on both lines has been a real emphasis. I look for our run game to really improve.

RE: Mississippi St. Football Preview
Our o-line is not going to line up & win the battle of attrition against a solid SEC defensive line. If thats the game plan, we’ll end up with more 3 & outs than 1st downs. We have to be unpredictable & we have to be in position to take what the defense is willing to give up.

Silverberg, in his heart, is an o-line coach & wants to establish a run 1st program; & I don’t think we’ve ever consistently been a program capable of recruiting the oline depth to be that type of program.

Everyone knows the best time to get a big win is at the start of the season when both teams are still trying to figure out their identity. Our offense and defense will be different from what they saw last season w new coordinators. And Mike Leach’s air raid is what it is. Can be explosive at times and stalls at others. I like our chances and I was at about 50% of the spring practices. We have playmakers that have been waiting to get their shot. GTG!

Lol ok

If your sole purpose on here is to be negative and be a dick to everyone, then you are succeeding.

Earlier in the thread it was Silverman, now this. The coach's name is Silverfield. Are you getting hosed by auto-correct, or just trying to be humorous and ending up looking like another one of the jerks around here?

It was not sarcasm. It was me pointing out that this is likely the only time all year you actually are cheering for us.

On paper, we could be much better at OL this season. I’m hoping the new OL asst coach recently hired makes the big time impact we are expecting.

Losing Evan Fields to Medical Retirement really hurts OL line depth and experience as he was slated the 6th lineman (and he had played/started a good bit the last two years. Any injury will bring in someone who has had very few game snaps. Key may be Dobbs holding down RT spot. He appeared to be leaner in spring game. The Tigers website isn't accurate on weights (Silverfield recently remarked Parham played at 315 last year, website had him at 285) but I would imagine Dale and Dobbs would contend for the largest right side of the line that they ever had.

TE will be interesting to watch as two former walk-ons will be keys to success. Caden Prieskorn (listed at 6'6 and 255, up from 215 last year) really needs to step up. John Hassell, local, is back for extra year. If he can stay healthy, I think he may have a positive impact to run game. It seems the Tigers lost him and Myers in the same part of season last year. May be only correlative (along with B. Thomas concussion) but the running game fizzled.

misinformation regarding player sizes/weights has been a common tactic in sports, football and basketball

And attendance

RE: Mississippi St. Football Preview
Ok, spent a few moments researching publicly available content about the upcoming game.

What makes me feel that the tigers winning is going to be 'hard' is that State has
- an offensive scheme that attacks our historical weak spot; pass defense
- a Junior QB who is playing with some confidence
- SEC grade linebackers and DL
- Most every position is a returning starter
- Huge revenge factor for them

What makes me feel tigers have a chance is
- Our DL is not really 'outsized' as their O-line mainly pass blocks so they aren't huge by SEC standards
- Most sports outlets are announcing a blow out win for the bullys; always good sign for us
- Despite an average national recruiting ranking the last 3 years in the 60 range vs state ranking of around 28; (approximate math) we played them pretty well last time
- I don't think Leach works in the SEC. How does this help us? I don't know. But maybe some players who don't get him will be confused by his corndog speeches
- yeah not much in here I know.

Game for us a win is about motivation; program validation and stability. For them a loss is because Leach is weird, can't communicate, they didn't want it and/or we brought crappy refs.

Can't wait. Hope it rains.
