Based on this and Phil Steele poll think we have a shot on the road against EMU. Even thou it will be game 5 of the season and the fourth on the road.

Surprised it is only three years. Ford Field has been good for us. Perhaps the shorter contracts keep them honest.
(And perhaps the lack of a contract until recently is why the MAC is at the House of Blues in Cleveland this week?)

HustleBelt hints at what happened. Ford Field was trying to land the Big Ten title game, but didn't get a firm "no" on that until April. Presumably, the MAC had to wait until that played out before it could lock down the stadium.

It's interesting to consider what the alternatives would be if Detroit wasn't available. I suppose it would be on-site stadiums, Cleveland, Cincinnati (which has expressed interest before) or Canton. (I'd pick Canton.)
(Yes, Indianapolis has a roof, but it isn't particularly convenient for any school but Ball State.)

The MAC championship in football and basketball should go to the highest seed record wise in the regular season still left back at on Campus sites. Why give a NFL or NBA owner the rent for a professional facility way too big to host a college sports event in my opinion. UB Horns Up! Go Bulls! Let’s Go Buffalo

We're gonna need a recount. They messed up and barely picked NIU. They meant to pick Toledo, as per standing operating procedures. :-P

I still think Lower.Com Field in Columbus is the way to go. It is an outdoor stadium, with a roof that covers all of the seats, the field (grass) is heated to keep the playing surface safe for players in any type of weather. It seats approximately 20,000, which is perfect for this game. It is downtown, walking distance to bars, hotels, restaurants, and it is convenient for nearly every school in the conference, with the exception of CMU, WMU, and NIU, which are a little further away from Columbus than Detroit..... Seems like a no brainer, and I feel like Columbus would really support this game with the amount of MAC alumni that already live in the city. The only draw back is that it is not indoors, however, again, all seats are covered by the roof, and the atmosphere would be electric compared to 15-20k, in a 65k seat stadium.... That looks pretty bad on TV to be honest.

I had not thought of this stadium. Interesting thought. It is a good size, and there is definitely more to do nearby than in Canton.

Yes lets downgrade from an NFL Stadium which most MAC players will never play in after their college careers end to a small soccer stadium in a city that truly only cares about one school.

Attendance at the 2016 championship game between WMU and Ohio was 45k.

lol i mean yea, thats not exactly common. But 15k is about par. UB vs NIU is obviously going to be less. NIU vs Miami and Ohio have even been poor.
Pretty much EMU, WMU, CMU, or Toledo vs. Ohio, Miami or BG will draw nice.

That is a massive outlier. It was an undefeated team from Michigan on the verge of being ranked in the top 10, thus, not a very good argument. The MACCG hasn't drawn over 25,000 since 2007. As another poster mentioned, attendance is usually around 15,000-20,000.
I live 15 minutes away from Detroit, so no complaints, but the attendance is always pathetic.
