RE: ESPN+ Price Hike
I have the bundle. I might drop it. I almost never watch anything on Disney+ other then when they put one of the Marvel blockbusters on it. Not even sure the last time I opened it. I only really watch boxing on ESPN+, I am not really interested in any of their other ESPN+ exclusive programming. I do like having Hulu, that plus boxing probably keeps me subscribed.
And I'm 50, raised three kids, and have never been to a Disney park either. Just never could get over the hump on the cost plus the lines plus the hassle. Every time we looked at it, its so damn big you just keep adding days and parks and $1000s at a time to feel like you "did it". Three times we started to plan it and ended up saying "Ok how about instead of paying $9000 and living in a hotel for most of a week, how about we spend $1500 and knock out Universal in a weekend staying at an onsite hotel with included fastpass."
My kids never had any special relationship to Disney characters that made it feel like a must. Sure, they liked Cinderella and Toy Story, but they liked Shrek and Anastasia and Blues Clues and Batman and Scooby Doo also, and I never felt compelled as a parent to make sure they met them all personally.

Smart man
I was however a bad parent. I never bought my boys the latest gaming system. I realized they were all proprietary and the shelf life was as long as the next competitor came out with their new system. I bought them software games to use on a computer. They both turned out ok.

It breaks down as 45 million in the US and Canada, 58 million in India and Indonesia (where the price is only $1/month) and 49 million in the rest of the world (which is priced like the US). There was essentially no gain in US subscribers in the latest quarter. The growth all came from India/Indonesia (8 million) and the rest of the world (6 million). Rest of the world numbers were juiced by a major expansion into eastern Europe. Vietnam and the Philippines are the next territories to launch, but they will be priced like India/Indonesia.

At a minimum, Peacock has been identified as getting exclusive streaming games. CBS and NBC will also be offering their OTA games on Paramount+ and Peacock, respectively.

RE: ESPN+ Price Hike
ESPN raised the price so much that Sling TV just dropped ESPN as of yesterday and I couldn’t watch any ACC games. I don’t care about ESPN plus but the ACCN is my favorite channel.
Need to find an alternative unless Sling and ESPN resolve the dispute quickly.

NIGHTMARE YOU CAN’T WAKE UP FROM
The thing for Apple and Amazon is that by offering a streaming service, they can get more people to subscribe to their monthly service. It is very good for their profits.

WAR FOOTING
There was a hedge fund called Third Point that was making a lot of noise at Disney as they were being an activist shareholder over the summer so this increase is likely as a result of this activist shareholder. This hedge fund wanted Disney to spin off ESPN but I guess Disney countered his request by saying we will raise our monthly fees.
It is likely to help Disney's bottom line quite a bit.
It is still too early to buy Disney shares as a recession is coming to the world in 2023. It might be severe too, depending on whether the central bankers screw up or not. For now it is better to stay out of these shares.

So that's from $6.99 to $9.99? What does that do to their 40% off bundle with Disney+ and Hulu?
It doesn't matter much to me except when the NCAA playoffs for Olympic sports are broadcast exclusively on ESPN+ and VT is playing in a game. So far that's the only time I've had to sign up for any of the three.
