Since there aren't enough schools to create a true "southern" conference, there are going to be some schools that seem like they should be home and home and aren't. It looks like A&T has pretty much the same "southern" schedule as UNCW, but you have a home and home with Towson where UNCW has home and home with CofC. You also have a home and home with Hampton and we don't.

I think they are assuring there is full interaction between the northern and southern schools. Each school only has six home and homes. It looks like four will be from their "division" and two outside their division. In the South, A&T probably insisted on a home and home with Hampton, so that leaves three. A home and home with Elon makes sense and a home and home with UNCW makes sense as well to help create some in state rivalries that should bring bigger crowds. That left only one other home and home in the South for A&T. Then it came down to CofC, William and Mary or Towson.

And don't forget, one of the reasons A&T came to the CAA was to get some recruiting exposure up north for A&T, so Towson in the Baltimore area would make a lot of sense.

RE: CAA Announces Conference Men's Basketball Opponents
I think the odd number of teams is sure to lead to some odd balancing of schedules. There's no way around it.

It's definitely weird to me that Drexel gets Hofstra only once. And it's sucks slightly that poor Elon and W&M have to go to Long Island to play Stony Brook but not Hofstra. (Delaware is the opposite.)

But you can also see some nice travel savings here and there. For example:
Charleston doesn't have to go to Long Island at all
UNCW doesn't have to go Boston
Drexel, Northeastern and Monmouth might be able to make only one trip to the Carolinas, depending on how those games are scheduled.

Overall, it's interesting how many teams have so many bus-able games considering how spread out the league is.

It's certainly better than pre expansion, but I can see why the goal was to get to 16 for even more regional scheduling. I think we will see additions next year when the Flo deal ends and the new conference gets a chance to show what it can do with the new members. I'm really looking forward to the new schools.

I understand playing up north for recruiting purposes however I am more concerned about building rivalries...we shall see how this plays out. We have a decent sized alumni in chapter in Charleston, at least they will have a chance to see the lady aggies play.

Do you have a decent chapter in DC? Towson would be a close game for them in the Baltimore area.

RE: CAA Announces Conference Men's Basketball Opponents
Not bad overall, definitely some head-scratchers. Travel was clearly a focus but some of the pairings seemed a bit off. Towson seemed to be the most bizarre, which I guess makes sense since they are kind of a confusing school on where they fit as a "southern vs northern" school. I am shocked with our history that Hofstra was not a home and home for Drexel. Surprised Elon is. A&T and CofC was interesting. As was Towson not having Hampton. Stony Brook, I felt, got the shortest of straws on what makes sense or doesnt.

The CAA release stated they were picked with influence from the schools on who they wanted as pairs, so maybe we all dont now exactly what our schools really wanted out of pairings.

Our DC Alumni chapter is the largest or second largest chapter outside of NC. I think my home chapter in Atlanta is now the largest but I am not 100 percent on that.

The Charleston Aggies are pretty active, FWIW.

Sounds like the overall CAA scheduling should bring some close games to your stronger chapters. And if your DC chapter is your largest outside NC, that seems like it may have been a driving force in the home and home with Towson.

As I hear about the strength of your alumni chapters, it's seems like it was another factor supporting your move to the CAA. Should be some fun away games with a nice A&T crowd at some away games. We don't see that much in the CAA. Can't wait to get this started!
