Will give some another reason to hate Ono. I liked him. But no mas!

I liked the guy too. No idea how good or bad he was for the university in general, but then again, I never do for any of the presidents.

I wonder if his position on "multiple flagships" has changed?

Meh.

Does it affect me in any real aspect?

Nope.

If I hadn't read it here, I wouldn't have heard about it at all.

I’m really surprised he left Vancouver. Beats Ann Arbor.

I was going through Ono’s tweets and on April 30, he congratulated UC grads, and said, “especially my daughter.”

A number of other Cincinnati-related tweets as well. Still follows UC football..

He had been there for around a decade, that is a long academic presidential tenure anywhere at this point...I bet this is his final job (unless something goes wrong), and sees it as being one of the better places to be for his actual academic specialty as well as his interest in athletics and research.

Michigan is a gigantic jump up the academic food chain from UBC. Frankly, I'm really surprised that they took Ono, who's never been a President at an AAU university.

In any event, I think in some small way it makes UC look good to have been a springboard to one of the most prestigious public university jobs in the country, and I'm saying that as a pretty hard critic of his time here.

Ditto and I live in Michigan. No Michigan fans seem to know...or care.

Might have something to do with the fact that 90% of Michigan fans never stepped foot into a Michigan classroom.

It's the second best university in Canada by most rankings. At worst it's the third best. It's also a public school with 56,000 students and 17,000 employees.

The Leiden Ranking ranks UBC #34 in the world.

US News ranks UBC #35 in the world.

The Shanghai Ranking ranks UBC #42 in the world.

Bolded, I agree. I'm not sure we've ever had a former UC President ascend to a top five public research university so it might be counted among a growing number of "firsts" the past decade for UC both academically and athletically.

I too agree his presidency at UC was a mixed bag; excellent rapport with students, visible in the community, and extremely likeable. But at times there were some questionable decisions made that called into question his executive leadership acumen.

All that sticks in my mind about the guy was him wearing a blue shirt to the UC-X game once. I know it's an insignificant thing but details count.

I dare say that he will not be sporting any red attire at his first Ohio State game.
