Delauter Prediction
MLB Draft starts this weekend. Two questions about DeLauter below. I'll give my view after a few responses!!
1. Will DeLauter become the highest drafted JMU Duke of all time (Current highest - Dan Meyer #34, 2002)
2. Projected draft range (example Early-mid first, Mid-late first, late first/early second, so on and so forth etc.)

RE: Delauter Prediction
I'm going to go with yes, but not by much. My guess is in the 20-30 range, so late in the first round, but before the compensation picks.

Delauter Prediction
Baseball America has him at a 55 on the 20-80 grade scale for hitting and fielding. They gave him 60s at power, run, and arm. I see him going between 17 and 25.

RE: Delauter Prediction
Chase will go in the top 30 easily. Too big and fast for teams to be that concerened with his injuries. I was hoping he would get picked ahead of Gavin Cross from VT, but that isn't looking too likely at this point.

RE: Delauter Prediction
A friend's son was projected to go around the 6th round a few years ago but dropped to the 12th round.
I'll say middle of the 3rd round. Hope I'm wrong.

10 in a row!
ESPN mock from the other day:
27. Milwaukee Brewers
Chase DeLauter, RF, James Madison
DeLauter is model-friendly given his Cape performance, exit velos and raw tools, but isn't loved by more traditionally leaning scouting organizations due to a bad spring and injuries that limited his looks versus good pitching this year. It's a safe bet that a numbers-leaning team will take DeLauter, and the Brewers are that sort of team at the right juncture of the draft.

F those “traditional” old fart scouts. Didn’t they learn anything from “Money Ball”?
I’m also tired of the “bad Spring” crap that keeps getting repeated…the injury was real, but his numbers in the Spring when he did play were solid. The condescending blather about the pitching he faced in the Spring is equally absurd.
I hope he goes first round, gets called up to “The Show” later this year, and then never returns to the minors, finding a starting roll much like Ryan Zimmerman.

Lazy rehashed blurbs. Agree Longhorn.
Thought the brief mention about the front office philosophies and still a 1st round talent was worth the share.

RE: Delauter Prediction
My woeful Reds have the #18 and #32 picks. Would love for them to take Chase with one of them. They also have very little in the way of promising OF prospects in their system so he could potentially be a fast riser.

RE: Delauter Prediction
"Baseball America predicted James Madison outfielder Chase DeLauter will go to Boston with the 24th overall pick. Baseball America ranks him as the No. 19 prospect in the draft.
MLB.com has DeLauter going 23rd overall to Toronto, while CBS has DeLauter going 22nd overall to St. Louis. CBS rates him the No. 15 prospect in the draft, while MLB.com rates him the No. 18 prospect.
DeLauter hit .437 in 24 games as a junior during an injury-plagued 2022 season.
He shined last summer in the Cape Cod League, which is the most prestigious summer circuit for college players. He won an award last summer as the top pro prospect in the league.
The first two rounds of the 20-round draft will air at 7 p.m. Sunday on ESPN and the MLB Network. Rounds 3-10 will be held Monday, with Rounds 11-20 on Tuesday."
