Arkansas State will be one of the youngest teams in the country next season.
Again another post I made on Hogville about your 2023 class:
Another big factor in this class, and probably all their classes going forward if the transfer portal does not open the flood gates is how young their roster is.
AStateNation@AStateNation
Arkansas State will be one of the youngest teams in the country next season. Of the Red Wolves' scholarship players, 70 percent will be freshmen and sophomores.

Most of the freshmen commits in this class know they are not being brought in to fill immediate needs, but for down the road. Butch Jones said when he took the job his program would be built around developing HS players, and it looks like they are already there.
Again if they don't lose to many to the Portal, and if they do they will just hit the Portal themselves.

RE: Arkansas State will be one of the youngest teams in the country next season.
Again a post about their 2022 roster I posted on Hogville:
While it is certainly the youngest A-State roster I have seen, it might also be the most talented.
While the Portal makes any roster day-to-day, and like everyone their roster will not be finalized until September, the average 247 composite rating for their current roster is .8352.
That compares to .8183 for last years young team, which was the best in the SBC https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Footba...erence=SBC
This continues their trend of having roster of higher rated, more highly recruited talent.
In 2015, the first year 247 published their SBC Football Team Talent Composite, they had an APR of .7860, which was 2nd in the SBC.
https://247sports.com/Season/2015-Footba...erence=SBC
They have gone from a 2-Star Roster to a 3-Star Roster, in a short period of time.

The expectation- after a series of one-and-done head coaches, their last HC dealing with a series tragic events in his life, capped by the COVID year the last four years of his tenure, and the culture changing year "zero" Butch Jones implemented last year, is that the talent improvement will began to show on the field in 2022.
Butch Jones has a solid reputation of producing results at this level , and the expectation based on this past spring and the summer workouts ,is he will do the same at A-State. Maybe sooner than most people think.
Should be a fun year for A-State fans, enjoy.

Again I'll copy and paste a post I made on Hogville, for any A-State fans visiting here.
It is worth noting that going into year two of the Butch Jones era , that 68% of their roster are Butch Jones's players. Players he recruited and signed. That is a huge advantage over year one.
Aside from the fact they are a little more highly rated as a group than the carryovers from the previous staff-they have a average 247 player rating of .8430 verses .8190 for the carryovers, it was obvious last spring that they are better fits for what Butch he is doing.
That might offset some of the disadvantages of their youth and/or newness to the program.
This is about as far as I can go, with the "talent data" available at this point for the 2022. The next update in data is not expected until fall camp starts.

The numbers above were for scholarship players, counting the walk-ons and preferred walk-ons over 70% of their roster this year are Butch Jones players.
