Big 12 questions ...
Was anything signed by the existing Big12 schools when BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston joined ... Assuring they wouldn't leave.
Could any of the newest members leave if something happens changing the makeup of the conference. 07-coffee3

RE: Big 12 questions ...
Sure they could leave. Same as Boise and TCU did to the Big East 10 years ago. Think they paid $5 or $10 million when they opted to not join after signing. That's pocket change now.

RE: Big 12 questions ...
Once they signed to move, they are now under the Big 12s 99 year Grant of Rights. They estimated it would cost OU or Texas around $80 mill to get out.

None of those three are going anywhere unless the conference is dissolved.

i doub this is true .. this entire domino effect of reallignemnt came from the conference members not wanting to extend the GoR (becuase its about to end)..and there are active big 12 trying to leave, no wa any extension of the big 12 gor was signed

I am under the understanding after reading an article that all Big 12 members signed a 99 year GOR. It’s why Texas and OU cannot leave earlier or else pay a massive amount.

Now just cause they are leaving doesn’t mean the other 8s GOR agreement went away… and I’d assume they’d require all incoming schools to be on the same deal as the other 8.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I don’t see a conference having 8 teams under a massive GOR and then letting in the new guys without.

the 99 year gor thing is unenforceable.. what OU/Texas are leaving is the GoR associated with the TV deal that ends in 2025..

it hasnt been 99years so what texas is waiting for isnt the 99year GoR thing.. based on reports by articles.. what triggered texas wanting to leave the big 12, was the old commish attempting to extend the GoR beyond 2025.. and texas wanted to leave before they forced their hand

i dont sa new gran o rights has been signed, as all the current big 12 were trying to leave as early as 1 week ago (before ucla news) and 3 weeks ago the leaving teams didnt even know when they wre joining the aac. to even enter the gor

im sure the new members will be subject to the big 12 exit fees, but i dont think it has anything to do with a GOR

Doesn't every GOR coincide with each media contract. ACC is bound to their GOR until their media contract expire in 2030something. Big 12 was the same for OU and Texas and is why they're waiting until this media contract expires to not have to forfeit their media rights (or attempt to buy out of them).

the "99 year thing" is certainly enforceable it is the contract for conference membership and it is what includes the exit fees

the end of the GOR (a separate contract from the contract from conference membership) ending means that Texas and OU get their media rights back and are free to take them with them when they exit the conference and pay the exit fees from the 99 year contract for conference membership

As usual there are both some hopeful making it up statements and some pretty accurate statements in this thread.
