Penny was never coming as an assistant
Well, he certainly would have benefited from being an assistant…
He played for and had been around 10,000,0000000,0000 assistant and head coaches since he could walk----I bet he got it .
Being exceptional as a player doesn’t make a guy a good manager or coach… oftentimes, it just the opposite.
Ala Clyde Drexler.

He pretty much had too. If he would have never started Bates then there would be uproar from the fans and media questioning Coach Hardaway. Luckily we saw him play first and it was the opposite reaction.
Hardaways teams...
If he wanted to bring him off the bench he cold have. (Unless other promises were made)
Emoni probably wouldn’t have come here to come off the bench. I completely agree with you that he should have. The fact that he wasn’t good enough yet was what caused the issue. When Penny saw that in practice, he should have made adjustments.
I’ve seen this same thing play out in youth sports. If you’re gonna bring someone in, they have to be better/significantly better than the players getting bumped. Otherwise, the coach looks like an idiot (and will ultimately lose players). Just be honest with everyone.
I think the forced PG role hurt him more than anything. He's a wing guy, not a distributor. We saw flashes in the tournament, where he seemed pretty comfortable off the ball. I think had Penny used him as a 3, his transition to D1 would have been much smoother. In all reality, he was done a disservice by having him reclassify and start as a HS junior.
Said that all along after it became apparent he wasn't suited for that role.

It's ridiculous. They also think Emoni was supposed to be a HS junior last year.

That's not what I did at all lite brite. I responded to the statement that being an exceptional player doesn't make for a good coach. Clyde was a good example of that. There was no intent to compare the two.
I support Penny and think he has found himself as a college coach and will be great some day so I'm not sure why that's goofy, but OK.
