RE: SMU to BIG 10 rumors
I’ve been saying that things will get crazy and then smooth out for the next 30 yrs…

The studies have been ongoing for all of the conferences best fit.. and footprints for television etc..

BIG 10 absolutely may go to 24 like we’ve heard over the last couple of years.. same with SEC … same with PAC, ACC, BIG 12 .. AAC…

AAU is still important to the BIG… also the southern recruiting and exposure…

Don’t be surprised to see

SMU
TULANE
MIAMI
RICE
GEORGIA TECH

All considered for a southern cluster for the BIG 10

I will bet you a dollar and rights to mercilessly poke fun that 4 of the 5 of those have a lead pipe lock zero chance. The 5th has a slim chance.

By your reasoning….let’s say that Colorado St, USF and New Mexico (all high R1 research schools) become members of the AAU Tommorow….will you promote them to the Big 10 too? All 3 of those have bigger and better facilities than SMU, Tulane and Rice and way better attendance.
Doubt you would include them.

Sure that wouldn’t bother me…but these schools Tulane and Rice and SMU are all in markets that are big athletic markets , South, cities with big populations …. As well as attractive travel.., not to mention again they are in the academic club AAU(at least Rice and Tulane are)

To make extra sure with Philly they are adding Temple, too.

Seals the deal.

No question.

Can't overlook the history of lots of recent success on the field, selling out their home games and having a strong national following.

Plus, they almost finished an entire season of their docuseries before it was launched into the sun by the arm of Desmond Ridder.

This thread is still alive?

A high school would have as much chance of getting in the B1G as SMU.

Nothing says "we dominate the Dallas Market" Like having an average announced attendance of 20k or less (which means probably less)

The latest I've heard is the that B1G is waiting on a decision from SMU before they continue their pursuit of Notre Dame.

Outside of maybe Dallas none of these are top 10 college football markets.

And the SEC with UT and aTm has the Dallas market locked up.

Atlanta has a top 10 market but no hockey team b/c they are not a top 30 hockey market.

Be honest. Is SMU even a top 10 draw in Dallas?
